Super 8 hotels are generally pretty nice and clean. Cheap, too. They're great if you're just looking for a bed and a shower.

I stayed in Montgomery both times I went. I hate the crappy town of Auburn inhabited by crappy fans.

They're all dumps, but that's all you can expect at this point.

Is it really that big of a deal to drive 45 minutes from Montgomery & get to stay at a decent hotel?

If it is, then book a room at one of the dumps you referenced.

No it's not. I lived in Montgomery for 4 football seasons, and it's not bad at all unless you plan to leave less than 2 hours before the game.

its looking more and more like the super 8...

45 mins is a hike for me...considering my possible state of mind.

There is a reason those are the only ones still open. If you don't want to stay in Montgomery though, just suck it up. Check in at the hotel, go out Friday night and come back drunk. Wake up early Saturday, leave the hotel and tailgate and come back drunk after the game. Leave early Sunday morning, you'll hardly notice you were staying in a cesspool.

Knights Inn should be condemned. I stayed there 2 years ago. But, then again, it is better than driving back to Montgomery. If I had to stay there again, I would probably sleep in the car and take a shower in the room. At minimum, bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

It's about 10 miles from the stadium. It's on the east edge of Opelika, so it's not the best location for food, etc.

But it's not an unsafe location.
