This Country Needs Football

This country needs football
To bring us together,
Like a cool breeze of fall,
In the midst of hot weather,
Instead of this mayhem,
That keeps us divided,
We can wear our team colors,
And all get excited,
When gameday comes round,
Folks of all parties mix,
We talk smack to our rivals,
Most don’t talk politics,
If they’re wearing your colors,
You don’t care race or creed,
‘Cause we’re on the same team,
Football’s something we need,
All this pent up frustration,
We can let it all out,
And the game on the field,
Is what’s making us shout,
And nobody cares,
If you’re red or you’re blue,
Only if you’re for Bama,
Or the Champs, LSU,
And those that are wanting,
To take that away,
When for sports fans are starving,
Players desperate to play,
They’re worried on gameday,
We might put it aside,
To share tailgates with strangers,
And forget the divide,
I don’t care who you vote for,
I don’t care what you think,
If you’re wearing our colors,
Then I’ll offer a drink,
If you’re colors are different,
Then I’ll still treat you fine,
Because football means fun,
Even for a short time,
Watch at home or on campus,
But please share it with friends,
You just never know who,
You might not see again,
So whoever you root for,
Raise your liquor or beer,
Because when we have football,
We’re together, so, “Cheers.”

Preach brother.
An ex LSU football coach once said a minister told him “Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night is about as close as you can get to the kingdom of God on earth because of the unity of so many diverse people.”

Just need people to quit being pussies. That would solve vast majority of this countries problems

Man, I’m not trying to make this political.
That’s one of the main things I love about college football, especially the tailgating atmosphere. Not once have I asked or cared about someone’s politics at a tailgate or when hosting an away game watch party. Because for at least one day you can dispense with the partisan bullshite and come together. Only colors that matter to me are purple and gold.
Hell, tailgates are a microcosm of how I think things should be in society. I’m in purple and gold. Visitors are in their colors. You know what? I’m still gonna invite you in, offer you a drink, feed you. Maybe a tiger bait but it’s all in good fun. It’s an escape from the tribalism of political divide and into the tribalism of your team. It just makes you feel good to share camaraderie with people.
I have longtime friends who I might disagree with vehemently on some political matter or the other, but you know what? On game day I’ll welcome them into my home and we’ll share an experience together. We’ll cheer together. Celebrate together.
We cussed together during the end of the Miles era when we’d piss away a game. We might have argued but it was over FOOTBALL. During the game, all the BS didn’t matter, because we were united in purple and gold as brothers and sisters.
There’s people I’ll never see again, but we had last season together. There’s friends who won’t see another season, so I’ll cherish this one, together.
When we watched 3rd and 17 we didn’t care about who we would vote for. When we beat Bama we didn’t care about some policy we disagreed on. When we watched LSU win the whole damn thing in the best season ever, every LSU fan was united.
Didn’t matter their color, their creed, their affiliation...they were TIGERS.
And if we can put it all aside and come together as Tigers, or whatever team you choose, you have that sweet moment of shared emotion.
We may win together in ecstasy or lose together in defeat, but the point is we do it TOGETHER.
And we need that now more than ever

Truth.
In my angsty teenage years I didn’t “get” sports. I mean I watched the games and was always an LSU fan but it was just sportsball, you know?
Then it finally hit me when I got invited to an LSU watch party, the ‘07 season, and being there with everyone, colors on, drinks flowing, cooking and throwing horseshoes, people playing music, just coming together, and it finally clicked.
I firmly believe that college sports and especially Football fills a deep place in our being that desires to belong to a Tribe.
And football gives us an acceptable outlet to let out all the pent up frustration, the aggression, the pressures of the daily grind, and just let loose. We choose our tribe, we don our colors and we do ritual battle by proxy, living vicariously through OUR team. You can dress up, paint your face, scream, shout, cuss, party, just have this ultimate release.
When your team wins, especially the big games, it’s this glorious high. And the fact that you can share it with your tribe makes you feel that connection. And yeah, when we lose, we feel the sting of defeat, but we share the burden and even in drowning our sorrows we can celebrate that we are surrounded by friends and family and Tigers (or whoever your tribe is), united as one.
There is an innate need for that, and seeing people so divided and at each other’s throats makes me realize the need for being united again, even for a short while, all the more important. Because when you break bread and share drinks with someone it’s a lot harder to hate.
There are forces at work that want to make us feel that we are enemies if we don’t think the same.
And I think football coming back might help some see that even if we disagree we can still be friends. That the ties that bind us can be stronger that the forces trying to rip us apart.

Why do you think the Left is doing everything they can to cancel football season?
Besides the economic impact, another Marxist goal is to break the spirit of the middle class and America as a whole. Eliminate any and all chances for unity. Why do you think they'll allow BLM/Antifa protesters to gather but not churchgoers?

Very good brother! LSU football is needed right now and thankfully the Tigers will be kicking off in Tiger Stadium on September 26, 2020 just as many of us hoped it would happen!!!

This country need a cure and vaccine for C-19, then football without restrictions.
You're not catching me anywhere near the LSU campus with restrictions on where I can go, what I can do and then having to sit in a half empty Tiger Stadium to start the game.
I'm not that compulsively desperate for the experience as many of you are.

Enjoy the game on TV but I for one will be in Tiger Stadium under the lights to support those players!
