My wife and I will be going on an Alaskan cruise next summer (if the China flu doesn't cancel it for us) out of Vancouver. Obviously we have the cruise itinerary mapped out then 2 days in Seward already planned after the cruise.

We will be flying in to Vancouver 2 days prior to the cruise. Any recommendations on bars, food, things to do?

Butchart Gardens in nearby Brentwood Bay is a must see in my book. Even my non flower loving husband enjoyed these gardens.

If I remember correctly, we took a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria (a pretty place to have lunch) and then drove to the gardens from there. We were with a group so all travel arrangements were made for us so the details are fuzzy.

A walk through Stanley Park in Vancouver is enjoyable. It's been 20 years since I was there so I can't offer any dining help.

A few years ago we ended our Alaskan cruise in Vancouver and stayed 3 nights, I think it was.

Love Vancouver. Where are you staying?

We stayed a few blocks from the cruise ship dock and walked around a lot. We did take the bus to Stanley Park & walked around there a lot; we kinda got lost. We also drove to Whistler one day but you probably don’t have time for that. We did not go to the gardens ‘cause I didn’t plan well and it was pretty much an all day trip.

That drive to Whistler might be the best drive I've ever taken. It's a beautiful drive and area.

Been too many years since I've been there but you should definitely enjoy it.

Thanks everyone. My wife booked us at a nice hotel downtown near the cruise ship docks.

My wife has been to Victoria but I've never been more NW than Idaho. My wife's grandparents were wealthy and had a vacation house on a small island off Friday Harbor.

My wife was sick when we were there so missed out on a lot. But go to Fritz and get some poutine. Robson street has a ton of places to eat.

Take an afternoon and spend it at the market under the bridge (Granville island I believe).

We went up a week early and divided our time between Victoria and Vancouver which are an easy and fun ferry ride away from each other. Two wonderful cities to spend a few days in.

Stanley Park is a great place to spend an afternoon...Granville Island is a bit touristy but is likely worth your time as well.

As far as bar/food recs, the Yaletown area has a bunch of restaurants all within a 3-4 block radius. Many look to be just takeout for now but maybe that changes for the summer. Flying Pig, Cioppino's, Rodney's Oyster House & the Keg (outdoor patio) were all winners for us a couple years ago.

Vij's is great for Indian but is a little drive from downtown. Fets Whisky Kitchen is awesome for bourbon fans.

All in all, Vancouver is a fantastic travel spot. Hopefully things normalize for y'all by the summer.

If a clear day - go to north Vancouver and take the gondola up grouse mountain (or if you want a workout do the grouse grind). You can swing by capilano suspension bridge over there too.

Downtown Hye is a steak institution and I also like Joe Fortes.

If you dig Asian food - dream city.

I was born and raised there - if you have any other questions let me know

THIS. Great views looking down on the city. And if you want, once you get to the top, you can do some of the best ziplining EVER on top. We enjoyed it immensely.

I wouldn't count on Canada being very accommodating this summer. They freaked out last summer and I don't think they've loosed up a bit.
