Looking to book a trip to Nashville in august and was just wondering what are some good places to eat and visit for drinks. Any other must see places while we are there? I’ve never been so any recommendations welcome. We will be stayinv around Vanderbilt university.

If you are staying out around Vandy, check out the Parthenon at Centennial Park (across West End Ave from Vandy stadium). It's a full sized recreation of the one in Athens with the Athena statue inside. Underneath is an art museum.

Lot of Nashville Threads on this forum, so you can do additional searches. Some "cut and pastes" from other threads I've commented on...
Food
For that high end experience (haven't been, but some best friends that go out a lot said this is their "must go to"):
Bourbon Steak
On top of the Marriot. Spectacular view. Amazing food. Pricey but worth it to them.
German Town
We really liked Henrietta Red. (in Germantown):
City House is an incredible restaurant. It's kinda small so call and make a reservation.
5th and Taylor is our personal favorite. In Germantown. About 5 miles from the Gulch.
Other
I don’t know why, but “Hot Chicken” is a thing in Nashville. Hattie Bs, but go to the one off Charlotte Parkway for no waiting.

The only really good BBQ place I’ve found is in Franklin. Little shack called BB’s BBQ. No sit down. Not a fan personally for the Martins BBQ hype. Average at best. Jacks BBQ was ok, as is Peg Leg Porker. Just don’t like the options in the area personally.
A "thing" in Nashville is Roof Top Bars. Depends on the weather when you're here of course but some use heaters as well if it’s colder.

LA Jackson is a popular one:

Gulch
Lot of walkable restaurants in the area. Otaku Ramen is a favorite.
LINK
Biscuit Love for breakfast. Very popular.
LINK
Kayne Prime is still “in the Gulch” but more towards Broadway. Perhaps some of the finest dining and steaks in the area. Expensive.
LINK
This group owns several restaurants in the Gulch. I love Viragos (next door). More like Asian Fusion.
LINK
My daughter used to work at Chauan Ale Marsala. She’s a world class chef. “Indian Fusion” is a way to describe it I guess. Across Broadway off of 12th.

Stuff To Do
Obviously tours of the Ryman, Country Music Hall of Fame and things like that.
The Game Terminal! Haven't been there, but my son told me about it.
The Game Terminal of Nashville was once an open air shipping terminal for commercial trucks, and the original beams and structure are still visible inside the building. Absolutely no expense was spared to totally remodel and renovate the space.
I like City Winery for music:

There are a lot of things you can do without getting undue exposure to significant crowds. Being indoors or not is a risk and that's up to you. Cheekwood Estate and Gardens is amazing.

Get take out and hit a park. Amazing amount of outdoor stuff to do:
Hiking:
Radnor Lake
Warner Park
Beaman Park
History:
Visit Franklin (20 minutes south). See the Carter House or Carnton Plantation. Shop. Dine. Great vibe.
Go to Ft. Negley. Near downtown. Great preserved fort and museum.
Walk around Vanderbilt. Nice campus.
