Rent a car in town for the day and drive out.
Calico Tanks trail. More strenuous than moderate but the view of Vegas at the end is worth it.

Great trail. It is a shame that they are building houses out there. If you can find out for sure that you will have reliable service you can even uber it. It isn't that far outside of town.

I live 5 minutes away from the Red Rock casino and can see Red Rock Canyon from my balcony. Which are you referring to? I can help.
The casino is my favorite overall casino in the city. Its clean and its in a nice part of town that keeps away the riff raff. It also has a bowling alley with a happy hour, $2 games after 11pm Sunday-Thursday. The hotel is also nice, its a 5 star on some sites. I've stayed there a couple times.
The canyon has good hiking. Its huge and so there are dozens of trails to hike. It can get really cold there in the winter and really hot in the summer. When I've been to hike I usually get up early in the summer time and start at the crack of dawn. Once the sun is up it will be too hot. It also has a loop that you can drive around, its about 16 miles long. Also it costs $15 to get in. Camping is your normal campground. I think the hiking is better at Mt Charleston, but Red Rock is much closer to the city center.

Agree this is a good one. Get off the Strip for gambling and I have always gotten play there. If I want to be trashy I head to the Cannery.
