The wife and I will be returning for the Saints game In October assuming nothing changes with covid and shite is open. Last time we went it was only for the weekend and we did all the touristy shite like Pike's, space needle, boat tour of harbor, etc. This time we have an extra day and would like to get out of the city to one of the national parks or the San Juan islands. I am not a hiker so I am kind of leaning towards the San Juan Islands although I have looked at some helicopter tours of the national parks that look killer. If yall have any specific recommendations about the islands or something other than hiking in the national tour it would be much appreciated.

Edit- trip to Victoria is also a possibility if they reopen to Americans

That is later October, so it may be rainy season by then. At least the San Juans and Victoria are within the rain shadow, so wise choice for that time of year. You will need more than an extra day though.

If Victoria is open, you could ferry through the San Juans from Anacortes to Sidney, BC and just do Victoria, but see the SJI from the boat. At the minimum you’ll want two nights in Victoria or one there and another near Anacortes on the American side. Cool stuff near Anacortes, so if weather is nice, worth while too.

Lots of great parks and hiking nearby obviously. Maybe a whale watching tour or a trip down the Oregon Coast would be really nice if you're willing to drive a bit. You could also go out to Leavenworth for a day

I had never heard of Leavenworth before your post. It looks pretty damn cool and appears to have a lot of options for activities/eating/drinking that the wife and I would enjoy. I appreciate the recommendation. I will do some research on the weather in late October and see what our best options are. We are missing Oktoberfest by a week!

If you do some searching you can find some threads on here discussing the area. It's a cool drinking town for sure. They go all in on Christmas and may even start a lot of the Christmas stuff in late October. Sleigh rides and dog sledding and all that stuff. Not sure if it snows that early or not

I went to Leavenworth this past winter.

It's a great base if you plan on doing outdoor activities in the surrounding areas. But the town itself is extremely kitschy. Just want to give you a fair warning.

You can definitely have a fun time there if you're into drinking though. We stayed at Hotel Pension Anna.

Also, it's a slightly far drive from Seattle not to do a full day there. I would probably pick something else if you're looking for a day trip.

He's probably right on Leavenworth. You'll enjoy it if you like drinking and german food but i can see an argument for it being a bit trashy and over the top. If I were you I'd fly into Seattle and out of Portland or vice versa. Using the Portland Airport means you can either go to Cannon Beach or Hood River and you can't go wrong with either. Cannon Beach is a beautiful rocky beach and the town reminds me of a classier key west. Similar layout and architecture, great food, but way less wild. Hood river is a small town in a very scenic part of wine country in the shadows of Mt Hood. Tons of wineries, breweries, and water sports along the river. You can also snowboard there year round.

We do enjoy drinking and German food. The trashy part really won't bother me as long as I am not getting jumped in the streets

If we do Leavenworth we would leave Seattle early Sunday morning and spend the night at the Bavarian Lodge. The Saints game is Monday Night Football so we would make our way back to Seattle Monday morning.

I will look into these as well, thanks
