Alabama Recruiting Number Question and Discussion

So as I understand, teams are allowed a 25 man class cap limit each recruit cycle. If you were to save a scholarship or 2, it can carry over to the next class and so on….
Looking at Alabama’s recruiting numbers, that doesn’t add up.
2008- 32
2009- 27
2010 - 25
2011 - 25
2012 -26
2013-26
2014-26
2015-24
2016-25
2017-29
2018-22
2019-27
2020-25
2021-27
Can someone please explain to me how Alabama gets away with this? Especially before NIL? (Looking for serious answers only, I know I’m gonna get plenty “cause it’s Alabama” or “cause they pay their players” or some other bs). Looking for a legit reasoning as to why.
I just have a hard time believing they are able to talk 2-3 in state signees each class into being a PWO and handing them a scholarship after a semester of being enrolled?
As much media covers LSU, let’s say for instance, before NIL, TJ Finley and Koy Moore in 2020 accepted some type of academic scholarship and used TOPS and were actually PWO and didn’t receive a full scholarship. we would’ve heard about it.
If Alabama is talking these highly recruited kids to join as a PWO, wouldn’t at least be some type of media coverage about it??
Looking forward to hearing some real discussion.

For sure man. TS1 put that together because it gets brought up all the time
. It's a lot of info but it's there.

Is Alabama getting both:
Voluntary withdrawals from players who leave early for the draft?
And
Early enrollees to take up the scholarship that was a voluntary withdrawal?
Is that even allowed?
The numbers just don't add up.

Just seems like some sneaky sh%t Saban and crew have figured out. Hopefully Mason Smith has also figured out the loop hole for us. This coming recruiting class, we can potentially pull like 30 guys and would love to see it, but knowing our luck we’d get sanctioned for some type of recruiting violation.

They file 85-Man roster waivers with the NCAA, while processing out under performing players out of program or off football scholarships (voluntary withdraws are moved to financial aid agreements)
You have to remember football scholarships are year to year.

Right that’s what I’m saying. Alabama isn’t losing 25 scholarship players every year to graduation/draft. Still doesn’t add up to me.
No way guys who under perform, who are in state, are giving up their scholarship, staying on the team, and receiving academic scholarship instead.
I’ve played with the numbers on this for a hot minute and still doesn’t add up. Guess that’s why I don’t get paid 100ks each year to make this work…

Okay if that’s the case, then why can’t we fill in the spot that Dare Rosenthal left immediately?
a transfer portal guy should be able to enrolled at LSU in August and be able to receive a scholarship immediately then

That's not allowed currently, but they need to change that rule.
This transfer eligibility is problem going to cost at least 100 high school players to lose their scholarship chances in D1 every year.

Technically, LSU can, but LSU has always allotted football scholarships to tenured walk-ons to fill out the 85. I also don’t think the past compliance office would have let CEO take kids off scholarship and file waivers.

Hahahaha that’s how I feel right now

The math never added up to me either. Even if grayshirted like someone else said, grays are supposed to count toward the next year. So the numbers are still skewed.
What I would be interested in reading though is the number of total scholarship players Alabama has had on roster each season. And compare that to their overall rosters to see if they've had in an abnormal number of PWOs that would otherwise warrant a scholarship at other P5 schools. Someone should spend the time compiling that data.
Because if they've followed the 85 rule to the T, then who cares if they are wasting more than they need to on freshmen. On the other hand, I guess it can be argued that they have a bigger pool of talent to choose from when deciding which upperclassmen to process to make room on the 85 man roster.
In conclusion, the answer to your question is ALABAMA.

But we are well below the 85 currently without the “Super Seniors” this season, who don’t count towards the 85.
So according to the NCAA bylaws link posted above, they should be able to grab a transfer portal guy and consider him a “blue shirt” until August.
