The more mask fail; The more we need them...
Louisiana
One of the greatest gifts the CDC unwittingly gave us with their habitual flip flopping is the opportunity to compare areas with and without mask mandates. They provided us the ability to have some semblance of a “control” group, which is obviously quite valuable when examining the possible impact of masks. With many governors or local politicians reluctant to return to mask mandates, the True Believers in The Science™ have created an easy comparison point.

One such state is Louisiana, where Governor John Bell Edwards, a True Believer, mandated masks again out of desperation at his state’s rising case rate. Nearby, Arkansas and Mississippi did not mandate masks, despite Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson’s best efforts.

Unsurprisingly, they’ve followed the same trends regardless:

Masking does not work. Distancing does.

Masks are nothing but social reminders. That is all. It’s effectively tying a piece of string around one’s finger so that they don’t forget.

In order to remove asbestos, you must wear a respirator to be fully protected. An asbestos fiber is roughly 5 microns. COVID is .1 microns. These cloth masks are essentially useless and I would argue that they are making things worse because you are constantly touching them which would lead to contamination.

This chart measures CASES. To that end, the sudden drop from Jan to Feb followed by the even more sudden rise at the beginning of July is interesting. I'm sure most will blame it on the presence of the Delta variant. And I suspect some of that is true. But could there be other reasons why the number of CASES suddenly dropped...then exploded once more?

If there is no testing then there are no cases, right? Could it be that around January 2021 when the vaccine came out it "calmed" the masses? That is, people had greater peace of mind...because the media/policies/social media weren't in hysterics about the number of cases...so they felt less inclined to go get tested at any sign of a slight fever, headache, sore throat etc.? With a reduction in the gross number of tests there was a corresponding reduction in the gross number of cases.

This chart indicates the number of cases stayed low throughout the spring. I think we could all agree optimism that we were "over the pandemic" during that same period was also high. Then, seemingly out of nowhere around July 4th the media, government, social media started EXPLODING with fear a levels we had not seen since the beginning of this thing. That fear may have caused people to be of the mindset of "well, let me get tested, just in case" for the same headache, congestion, etc they may have just chalked up as nothing a few months back.

In other words, is fear playing a big part stoking a rise in CASES? It just seems really odd that cases would have such sudden drops then rises

...and to think the "Republicans for Democrats" wing of the Louisiana Republican Party may send this a-hole to the US Senate in a few years.

Just because masks work on sloths does not mean they work on humans

Masks have the opposite effect. People with masks have no issue getting well within the 6ft.

I'd like to see Texas and Florida rates superimposed there as well.
