I've got one of the smaller griddles, a 17 inch with a side burner/fryer. I've been using a normal tank, but we're thinking of the 1 lb Coleman type tanks to save space. Just curious how long these run and if I'm going to be dealing with swapping them out to refill often. Thinking of grabbing a couple of them and one of the refill adapters to fill from a larger tank. They sell the regular 17 inch with the gas line for the smaller tanks, so I'm thinking I would get a decent amount of run time since the griddle is the same size. Anyone have any experience with the smaller griddle and tanks?

Do the math. 1 pound tanks of propane hold around 21000 BTUs of fuel. Determine the BTU rate of your griddle and calculate it based on that.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. This one is 12k BTU's so I should get around 2 hours, right? I rarely run it wide open, just on high for a couple of minutes to heat up, then dial it back to medium usually.

I get about 3 cooks out of the small ones on my 17” (plain griddle no fryer). Put the empties in the fridge for several hours before refilling, helps get them full.

Meh the refill adapter doesn’t work that great. If you want something small that will last and is refillable I would go with the 1.2 gallon or 2.5 gallon tanks that Manchester or Worthington sells. They are harder to come by but we supply a couple local hardware stores with them.

What adapter are you referring to? I have the one below and it works well. I put the empty bottles in the freezer for a while, put the adapter on the tank, screw on the small bottle, turn the tank upside down, open the valve and it fills it up. I’ve weighed a new one and a refilled one and the refill gets it to above 90%.

That's the same adapter I still have in my cart on Amazon. Finally found a small tank at Walmart last night, so I'm going to go ahead and order this. Glad it is a good one.
