No, but he'll give Assange a new home. We should crowdsource him a mansion in Palm Beach

Assange gets a new home and Snowden comes home.

That would be interesting. A Snowden pardon. Can't say I would be against it. Snowden broke the law, but he exposed serious government infringement on personal liberty. I don't know if I'd say he's a hero, but he damn sure isn't a traitor.

I thought both sides wanted Snowden punished.

Really if you call Hillary a criminal for her use of a private email server, then by that logic Snowden has to be a criminal.

Trump is getting ready to be president.

He'll develop a distaste for the Snowdens of the world quickly.

I think it's the exact opposite, at least concerning motivations.

Clinton exposed secrets while trying to deceive and hide the truth.

Snowden exposed secrets in order to reveal the truth. He also did so in a very measured and responsible way, imo.

Snowden committed crimes against the United States. Crimes are illegal. He can come home and have a trial where he might face the death penalty.

What Trump can do is praise Wikileaks, Snowden, and certain forums for opening the eyes of people around the world. He can then stop actively pursuing Snowden and Assange.

It sounds bad, but these guys are nerds with a very small amount of friends. Praise and friendship are what they desire most. Acknowledgement of them and their actions will go a long way. Admitting the hypocrisy of politicians will garner support from Assange, and speaking about the overreach of the NSA spying will tug on Snowden's heart strings. OTOH, acknowledging that they committed crimes will also explain to them that they did wrong.

MAGA just started another chess game

You are correct, although I believe Snowden to be a hero. One of the reasons Snowden left is because of the Obama Administration's penchant for using the Espionage Act in whistleblower cases, which effectively prohibits the whistleblower from raising a justification type defense. I could see Trump allowing Snowden to return to face lesser charges that don't subject him to decades in prison.

You are absolutely logically correct to question this.

However, how does one ever expose abuse of power in this country if you can't blow the whistle (and many have tried unsuccessfully through traditional "legal" channels) and expose said abuse.

Without actions like Snowden's, we are rolling down hill like snowballs heading for (an Orwellian) Hell.
