It's very clear he was making a distinction between hosting a show that people watched to hear his interpretation of events (opinions) vs being paid as the deputy director of the FBI based on his ability to prove things (facts).
There is nothing negative about that, not sure why you would read into it more.

Letting them score and keeping the timeout was probably analytical the highest chance of winning. But to simpletons it looks dumb.
Well you are flat out wrong on this.
Letting them score on first down saves 40 seconds. In your scenario above, hitting two long pass plays would stop the clock and allow them to spike the ball in order to save maximal time.
1 extra play from Miami was a guaranteed 40 seconds off the clock. Ohio State could've ran 5 additional plays in those 40 seconds.
