The liberal Democrats are touting that Clinton won the popular vote. Big red herring.
If the presidency was a popular vote election campaign strategies would change. Currently Republicans concede the larger urban areas on each coast and do little campaigning in those areas. If it was a straight open vote then Republicans would likely pull more additional voters from those few states than Democrats would pull from the historically Republican areas.
