I wanted to have a good discussion on this in my last thread but I think it was wrongly deleted. I'm guessing due to the racial component (though there was nothing wrong or offensive about it) so I'll take that part out.

Whether you are a Trump supporter or Clinton supporter, if the opposing candidate will you plan to stay in the U.S. long term or start to consider your options for other countries?

I know as a Trump supporter I will start to seriously consider England, Australia and Japan as possible countries to move to. My parents would never move and are hopefully about 20 years away from death so I would still be here for awhile, but if Clinton wins I will start planning my move to one of those countries in case my parents pass away before that or in case things get really bad in this country.

What about you?

The "new" guy is going to flood the board with thread after thread.

Calling it now, you get whacked by noon.

I'd love to live in the south of France, but it has nothing to do with politics.

On the coast of Mississippi I don't see much changing for me no matter who wins.

Don't worry, while I might be new I won't be starting thread after thread. I do actually work today from 10:30 until 7:00 but I just had a few extra minutes before getting ready. I will be back this evening though for the results.

If America falls it won't matter where you live. You'll eventually be speaking Russian or Chinese.

Don't know if we can take 4 or 8 more years of transforming Amerika.

It would be hard, no doubt, but that's why I am starting to plan now. I know it could easily take 5 years to accomplish, never mind if I go to Japan learning the language (which I have started to do now).

I think any of those countries though would be willing to accept someone who has a decent and versatile skill set, someone happy to assimilate into their culture (while leaving the U.S. culture behind, something immigrants here should be doing) and someone who would be a net positive on their society and not take government money.

Japan especially I think will change and be more willing to take people like me as their population continues to decline. We all know Asians are the one group who actually like white people for the most part.

If the US goes Global Authoritarian Socialist, IV...there will be not other FREE Country/Nation that will be able to resist. China and Russia and whatever Entity arises out of the ME flameout will be players. Europe is toast. Again.

Stand and fight, buddy. It's 'run but can't hide' time.

I for one am not leaving. I have served this country once on foreign soil, and I would absolutely do it again here at home. I will be damned if my children will not have the same opportunity at a great life in this great country, and I will do whatever is necessary to make that happen. MAGA!

Jumbo thank you for your service, I applaud your pride in the country and the willingness to protect it. I think children not having the same opportunity as we have in this country concerns all of us. Sadly though one man, whether you or me, can't make a difference in the whole country.

Look, I hope Trump wins tonight and I don't have to consider these options down the road, but I'm not as optimistic as others are here about tonight. I really hope I'm wrong.

I will legally apply for citizenship through whatever immigration system they have, show my qualifications (I am currently studying for radiography and previously had a career in Human Resources/Benefits for a large multinational company), pay my exit taxes here in the U.S., denounce my citizenship and move to that country.

Obviously the plan would be to get a job lined up during the application process before ever getting over there. You do realize people do move countries right and somehow get jobs right? It is possible.

Mmmmh, it is extremely rare, and just about impossible in Europe (I'd say impossible, but there must be the exception which makes it not so).

Japan, I have no idea, but from what I've seen, that'd be strange.

Then how do people ever move here? Answer that for me, I work with people from Canada, England (those she is considering moving back because of what's happening here and BREXIT) and France. I have 2 good friends of mine who work overseas, one in Germany and one in Australia.

I agree it's not easy, but I'm prepared for that. It might be impossible in some European countries but not all by any means. England I think would be pretty accessible for former Americans.

Marriage?
Family (and sponsorship)?
The company they work for?

I don't know what the laws are here about picking up and landing here from a developed country. I really don't.

I believe Australia may still be kind of lax (they certainly used to be).

I have a hard time believing anybody from here could work for anybody but a US company in the European Union (paperwork still may be a deterrent for them).
