Thankfully, our league doesn’t contain poors who are desperate for the money.

The poorest people I know seem to really care about what others do with money they earn- Seems like you've unwittingly outed yourself here. My condolences

Damn dude, calm down.

We still play the game and the winner will hold the title as champ for the next year. But he most in here don’t even know who won their championship last year.

I suppose I wouldn’t know. But if I found out about it, they’d be gone. You’re basically throwing out the importance of getting to and winning the championship game.

How so? You can't chop the pot if you don't make it to the championship game

I don't have a problem with it though. If you make it to the championship game, you do what you gotta do. I might be salty if I lose to a shitty team in the semis because of some fluke and said shitty team chops the pot and receives the low end of the deal.

I wouldn't do it unless I was projected to get blown out.

ETA: The above didn't happen to me, I was just stating a hypothetical situation. I made it to the championship game

Think I discussed it one time, but ultimately declined only because I had a lot of faith in my team winning. I'm not opposed to doing it if I'm really unsure about my projections (this year is a good example with how many big players are injured/not practicing). But I don't love doing it 50/50..would be fine giving 2nd a little extra just to guarantee a nice payout, but I'd still want there to be reason to win 1st.

It's still a gamble either way... if you chop the pot and win the game, then you screwed yourself. If you don't chop the pot and lose, then you screwed yourself. Why anyone else in the league would care I have no idea. It doesn't affect anybody else, so it's not like it's collusion

I’m honestly shocked by how many people here think this ‘chop the pot’ deal is acceptable. To each his own, but I’d never go for it. It just seems silly to me. If it were 100% about money for me, then I guess I could see it, but I don’t play for money specifically. Don’t get me wrong, the extra cash is nice, but I want to win and I want to talk shite. If I lose in my championship game, I’ll take my medicine. Losing is supposed to hurt, not be rewarded. Sometimes underdogs win. If you agree to ‘chop the pot’, you’re basically giving up in the final week of the season.

No, you’re not. You’re guaranteeing yourself the most money possible. I’ve never chopped in fantasy football, but I play poker tournaments all the time, and I don’t remember the last time we didn’t chop between the last two or three.

Our league has a trophy that gets passed year to year with your name and team name engraved on a plate and attached, like the Stanley Cup. There’s your bragging rights.

I won’t chop a few hundred dollars just because it’s not all that significant. Now I play in a 12 team $500 entry fee league. I made the championship this year and the guy I’m playing against declined to alter the current payout. 1st- $4000 2nd-910. I’ve played for it twice before and we’ve guaranteed more money for 2nd both times. In this league it’s acutally pretty rare to not see the two teams alter the payout. I like hedging bets, but I won’t do 50/50 splits.
