So Mike Martz is in town and there are concerns that he is going to put a damper on Matt Forte’s fantasy stock. Bringing even more questions was the arrival of Chester Taylor from the rival Minnesota Vikings. Since Taylor’s specialty up north was catching passes, people assume that will be his role in Chicago.
People forget that Matt Forte led the league in 2008 for Running Back receptions with 63. He was third for Running Back Receptions in 2009 with 57. The man can catch the ball. Chester Taylor arriving isn’t going to make him less capable

People are going nuts over Greene and he hasn't proven shite in the NFL for the most part. LT will steal more carries from him than Taylor will steal from Forte. Also, Sanchez will dictate his success.
People forget Forte ran for over 1200 yards as a rookie and caught 63 passed for another 500. Last year he was struggling with recovering from knee surgery. This year he is healthy. People who took Forte are getting great value, and he is more valuable than Taylor is Martz's system.

Will Forte be the Marshall Faulk of the Chicago Bears? Possibly.
Warner > Cutler
Faulk > Forte
Bruce > Hester
Holt >>> Aromashadou
Knox = Hakim
STL OL > CHI OL
ISWYDT, but Forte was pretty bad last year and there are questions about the supporting cast.
We don't know what the Martz effect will have on his productivity yet, either.
For now, I'd stick with Greene over Forte in all formats.

Again, coming off major surgery that usually takes 2 years to fully heal. Why was his rookie year so good and not last year?

Like? A decent QB who can sling it? A offensive tactician as an O-Coordinator? A stable of young, talented, fast receivers? A damn good TE? One of the best backup RBs in the league? The only questions comes with the OL, IMO.
I'd give the slight nod to Greene still, but Forte will surprise a lot of people. He's a damn good back.

I get: Shonn Greene, Malcolm Floyd
I give: Michael Bush, DeSean Jackson
Thoughts?

I'd take Greene and Floyd in a heartbeat. Floyd should put up some good numbers with Rivers throwing the ball around in SD.
Bush is already hurt, which could give McFadden the opportunity to prove himself and not look back. Plus Oakland is pretty shitty and now Campbell is banged up as well.
Jackson may very well be the best player in this deal, but it isn't worth taking on Bush to get him.

WTF didn't I understand? He's not Marshall Faulk and we don't know if Martz still has it or not.

Maybe he couldn't quite overcome the injury and had a minor sophomore slump? It happens to 2nd year vets all the time who beast their rookie years (Bowe, Royal, etc.)

The Bears were meh last year, and until proven otherwise, they are still meh.

I agree it's not far off, but Greene is the consensus amongst pretty much everyone to be the higher draft pick, ergo the better fantasy back. I thought Forte was good his rookie year, but not great. Last year was not good.
I actually like Forte better than his ADP, tho

He meant that Forte will play a role similar to what Faulk played, not that he actually will be Marshall Faulk. And do coordinators just "lose it"?

A couple of meh seasons in STL where he wore out his welcome, followed by no production in Detroit or San Fran. He's been a year removed from the NFL, and now he's back.
I'd say he needs to prove that he's still a good coordinator in the NFL

The talent was pretty limited in detroit and san fran. i guess we will see

some do....esp ones known for a specific innovative system. That system becomes less unique, defenses evolve and get used to seeing it.

I wouldn't mess with it, Chester Taylor looked really good

Only one thought...why are you here asking us instead of pulling the trigger before the other guy changes his mind?

So after all this discussion, it's stil about a 50/50 split.

definitely not. Although I've heard Forte looks good.

the bears have one of the worst lines in the league with a pass happy mike martz. the jets have one of the best lines in the league with a run happy rex ryan.

FWIW... I decided to keep Shonn Greene. Thanks for all the input.

Cutler has ruined Forte. Forte would do well with a good QB and a decent line.
