Because I know several people who have gotten tickets for 1mph over the speed limit on 190.

Like i said, no wish of harm or health to any people, hopefully they all have great flood insurance and can relocate.

The only reason that town has a pulse is because of their POS police department.

Shreveport is no slice of heaven, but to compare it to krotz springs?

You guys do realize almost of of these towns were there before the spillway right? So back in 1954 i'm sure all these people down river were informed that they were building a place upriver that would flood there homes everytime the government deeemed it necessary.I'm sure they sent a letter stating that. I keep hearing from all the people on the board how they were given money to move but no one has produced any evidence of such a thing. So your telling me if you were already living at your home and someone gave you a letter every year that you have a chance of flooding you would up and move with them not supplying you any way to do it financially. These are not rich people. I understand why this is being done but some of you morons need to get off your high horse and give most of these people credit because if i lost everything i would be pissed over this move.

I can understand what you mean, and I feel for the people. But wasn't it common knowledge that the Mississippi would have diverted through the AB if ORCS/Morganza were not put into place to keep 70% of the flow through BR/NOLA?

I have never gotten gas or spent a dime in that town. I have peed there but will not even buy anything in a gas station there as I usually do with any gas station i use the bathroom at.

I do feel sorry for anyone who owned land or property in that plane before the spillway was built. But people who built there after knew full risk of what they were doing. And they have insurance for that kind of thing. And if you can't afford it, don't live there.

"It's all about saving Baton Rouge and New Orleans while they flood people down here," Wiggins said, pointing out that most people in his neighborhood did not carry flood insurance. "So I guess it's all about saving the rich and burying the poor?" he asked.

Someone tell this idiot that there are poor people in both BR and NOLA.

That seems to have played a part, sure, but have the spillways not just delayed the inevitable?

Seems like I've read plenty of articles stating that the majority of the River's waters would be going through Morgan City by now if the spillways were not in place. Please correct me if I'm wrong... I'm still trying to learn about the decisions that led to this.

Ascension parish (gonzales and pville for the most part) would have taken the worst of it. It's not JUST BR and NOLA.. when you speak of those two cities, you are including the "Areas" BR being gonzales, denham, central, and NOLA beinng meterie, kenner, slidell, etc.

Past generations of cajuns have moved along with the rivers that they have lived by. It's easier for a few thousand cajuns to up and move if the river floods and relocate by the river than to move a few hundred thousand city dwellers & company's(BR & NO) that have no river. This was a major factor in the building of the spillway not to help save these towns from the next major flood.

without reading this thread to know the general consensus, i'm going to agree with him. No way should we have flooded one peoples property and land to save another...regardless of the disparity in numbers.

Correct me if I am wrong, but most of these cities and towns in the Atchafalaya basin were in danger of being flooded whether the Morganza spillway opened or not.

Correct, but Terrebonne is subject to backflooding of the spillway.

I know this, but this is to the people stating know where u live. Houma/Terrebonne was here way before the Morganza Floodway. We are not even included in the zone, but we are included in the people saying "You built their even though it is a flood Plain." Which is simply incorrect. Houma/Terribonne is not in the Flood plain. I understand backwater flooding. I will deal with it. Even though i never recieved one of these magical letters everyone mentions. Also i never recieved any easement payments, but i will still get water.

All depends on where the levee: break, breach, failure, or overtopping occurs. To state : They would all flood anyways is partially correct, partially incorrect. Where i live if the ORCS or MSW failed and the AR was in control then yes. IF a Levee was comprimised, then IRDK. Depends on the location.
