If you haven't been to Nino's, I also recommend it for a special night. Take the advice above when you call letting the restaurant know it's a special evening.

French Market bistro is now on our radar. Best grilled oysters in Baton Rouge, and its not even close. Haven't had a bad meal there yet.

I think I'm in the minority on my feelings about this statement, but it's never been a ringing endorsement for me. Sounds to me like the food is just okay or just "not bad".

How about "all of my meals there have been great" or "above average" or whatever the case may be?

And, I'm not picking on you or that's not my intention. I see it a lot on the board which is why I say that I'm in the minority, apparently.

Put me on the bandwagon for Nino's as best date night restaurant. It is tiny, reservation is a must. Filet medallion pasta...

Called and tried to set a reservation but they're closed until Tuesday April 24th for some reason. We're going with Maison Lacour instead. Looking forward to it.

I may be partial because I love grilled oysters and theirs are my favorite in BR by a long shot. I'd rather a great dozen oysters over a great steak or other entree. The owner of my company is a regular there and turned us onto it. I have enjoyed every meal we have had there and the service has been as good as anywhere in town.
I'm not trying to convince anyone, just share my thoughts.

I think you may have missed my point. Not a big deal though.

Me and the SO went to Little Village downtown the other week since I had a giftcard. Holy shite, that was one of the best meals of my life.
Got the Village Bread of course and an appetizer of Roasted Artichoke
I got the regular filet topped with lump crabmeat (don't get the crabmeat, its $14 and they barely give you shite). The filet was one of the best filet I have ever had in my life.
The SO got the Seafood Stuffed Filet topped with mushrooms and roasted garlic.
We told the waiter it was our Anniversary (it wasn't) and had our choice of white chocolate bread pudding or chocolate covered strawberries with free champagne. We got the latter
They also had great cocktails. I was drinking the Sinatra Smash all night.

Because you wanted to get something free?

This is why we eventually can't have nice things.

Had dinner at FMB in the last two weeks and everything was excellent. Had a delicious filet served over crab boiled then roasted new potatoes with a crawfish cream sauce.

It was a special they were running and after I ordered it, I had second thoughts for a moment, but decided to go with it and I was glad I did. Tremendous dish.

My wife had a seared ahi tuna that was very good as well.

Sounds delicious.

I boil new potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes in crab boil and then roast them frequently. Regardless of whether you put crab boil in the water, the texture of boiled and then roasted potatoes is creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

I had the fish special Friday night. Was very good even though I'm more of a sea bass guy (have had that there too and was great) and not a cobia lover. Was disappointed in the sensation salad as it was not what I was expecting or used to but still good. Starting to become our go to place.

Completely agree, had the sensation once, will not get it again, but the blue cheese wedge and fried crawfish salads are great

Well actually the waiter nudged us into it. He said "It's your anniversary right?" and gave us a little wink. You would deny that it's your anniversary in that scenario?

Yes. I would laugh and say "thanks for the thought, but I wouldn't feel right about that since it's not our anniversary."
