so if you're in a restaurant, and your dessert appears to be perfectly sliced, it's probably from sysco. this isn't a terrible thing, they are pretty good. but this is why i don't like to order desserts unless its at a nice restaurant and they have something special

Bingo.

If I'm paying to go eat a meal in a restaurant, especially a place that's supposed to be "nice" or "upscale." I expect them to be something more than simply a middle-man between me and their Sysco distributor.

as stated by most everyone, this list is obviously bs.

BBQ: i've only been to voodoo once, and i was not impressed. TJ's consistently has good ribs, but not much else in way of bbq impresses me.

Breakfast: i have only been to louie's out of these three, but it probably received the votes b/c it is the most well known of any breakfast place in br.

burgers: George's burger was overrated, imo. i like riverside and brew bachers better (know ill get slammed for this). Dearman's just flat out sucks imo. it's basically a mcdonald's burger.

dessert: my only thing here is how does a grocery store get on this list?

fast food: dono if izzo's is fast food.

Mexican: ive never been to mestizos, but i like superior just fine. its a race w/ ninfa's to me, they are both good. love ninfa's fajitas.

best overall: glad the restaurants are local on this list, not chili's or something. i think juban's should be higher than the chimes, but them both being on the list is ok for me.

best po boys: damn i miss the rocco's on chimes.

seafood: this one is the worst imo. mike andersons should not be ahead of la lagniappe or parrains. i think parrains is the best all around, but i love la lagniappe as well. this one is the most obvious bias towards advertisers (if they advertise w/ 225?)

i just felt like ranting on this, i share the same sentiment with people overall

I think you guys are underestimating the general population here. I voted in this survey. Basically, if you are on the 225 e-mail list, you'll get to vote. Some of the above places, I voted for, some, I didn't. But I would only vote for places that 1) I've been to and 2) were one of the 5-6 in each category listed. Nominations are taken well in advance, and the top 5 or 6 in each category are included in the voting.

So obviously the results will lean more towards "most popular" rather than "best".

At the end of the day, I'm not going to lose any sleep over the results.

Best Barbecue

You have got to put Sonny's in there.

Best Breakfast

You have got to put Christina's in there. Louie's is God awful.

Best Burgers

I would have The Times and Capital City in my top 3.

Best Coffee Shop

No Highland Coffee or Perks?

Best Fast food

Is Izzo's fast food? I would put Popeyes in there.

Best Italian Cuisine

I would have Monjunis in my top 3.

Best Po-Boys

I would throw PoBoy Express in my top 3 and possibly Akasha.

Have you been to the one on "Old Hammond" hwy???? They are busy busy 7 days a week. The one on O'Neal was packed on the weekends...from what the servers say there wasn't enough business monday through Friday out that way b/C everyone is working. Even though there are alot of homes out there most families are two income families that simply couldn't afford to eat out alot during the week. The food was exactly the same between the two restaurants and they were both run by the same owner. The one on O'Neal didn't make it simply b/c it was a bad location. Even "The Village" as awesome as it was didn't make it in that building. The "Little Village" owned by the same people is doing awesome in downtown Baton Rouge.
