Wow 7 pages on this, I tip 25% usually on good service and down to 15% if its bad.

To go orders though, such a strange process, my general rule is 1 dollar per person I'm picking up food for, but a lot of times if its at a counter style place like George's ill just do a $1 regardless of size.

For those that work in fb business, do you really expect / get mad over not being tipped for putting food in a bag and handing it to someone?

Well that was never my issue. I certainly don't think Brees is obligated to give anything to anyone simply bc he makes a shite ton of money.

Do any of you know how servers and the IRS work?

Any server, including take out people, who are paid that $2 an hour shite must claim 8% of their SALES as taxable income

So 8% of a 70$ check is 5.60$ or so. The chick basically paid 2.60 to hand him his bag.

And if you think nothing goes into setting up the to go order than you've never done it. Restaurants generally rotate the take out sever since they'll generally get screwed on tips

I'm not telling anyone what to do but at least know what the person is responsible for before spouting off dumb shite

And if you don't want to ever tip than all restaurants should increase their prices by 15-20% and make servers the reciepent of that amount but is rather have the ability to not tip on bad service

Should they tip you more that $3 when you do this?

Large restaurants must follow special tip reporting rules. The IRS defines "large restaurants" as those where tipping is customary, food or beverage is provided and consumed on the premises, and, in the preceding year, the average number of hours worked by all employees on a typical business day was more than 80. If your restaurant meets these criteria, you must allocate tips to your employees if the total tips reported are less than 8 percent of total sales (adjusted for carry-out sales, service charges and sales taxes). Allocated tips are subject to the employer's portion of FICA taxes. Tips can be allocated based on each employee's share of gross receipts, hours worked, or another method based on an agreement with your employees. Most restaurants allocate using the gross receipts method. You only withhold income and FICA taxes on reported tips, not on allocated tips. Allocated tips are reported separately on the employee's W-2. Although the 8 percent figure is the threshold used by the IRS for tip allocations, your employees are still required to report all their tip income. Even if your employees report 8-percent in aggregate, your restaurant may still be audited and assessed back FICA taxes on unreported tips as calculated by the IRS, particularly if, as mentioned, unreported tips are less than charged tips.

Most hostesses and/or to-go counter server make minimum wage. The tips thereafter are lagniappe. It's not like a server who has to get tips to make any kind of money.

Not all. Many restaurants will stick someone who is normally a waitress esp if there is a heavy take out order business

I had to deal with it many times in my service days and everyone who had to do the take out day complained the same

I'm not saying Brees should have tipped more, not really my point

I know what the bold states.

I've never seen it in my days as a server or as a manager put into effect that way- ever

And I worked/managed some large locally owned kinda places
