Is it similar to squirrel?

It's very similar to rabbit and I find rabbit similar to squirrel, so my answer is "yes".

What I like about nutria is one full grown nutria gives as much meat as a dozen or more big squirrels and about 3 full grown marsh rabbits.

Thanks. Never had it, but I would have no problem with it. We ate squirrel many times with my grandmother. Her squirrel and dumplings were great.

Found a recipe and made this today. Good stuff. I should have made a rice to serve it over, the gravy is tasty.

I took a pot down to South Georgia to add to our family's traditional, turkey, ham, cornbread dressing Christmas meal. It was a big hit.
