I just still don't understand how Denham can't have one semi nice white table cloth restaurant with something that resembles a chef doing some real cooking.
I am not asking for much, but how about also said place having some wine a little better than what can be found on the shelf of CVS. Maybe some interesting salads. Maybe an appetizer list that doesn't consist of fried cheese sticks, artichoke, dip, or potato skins.

There are alot of educated folks making descent money in that area, so it really is sad that you can't put in a small nice restaurant.

I thought the BBQ was pretty good, certainly better than HiHo or Voodoo. I am pretty sure (but not positive) they have burgers.

Thanks. I really did not like HiHo at all, so I will be pleased if there is decent BBQ to be had.

Sakura on Range is one of my favorite sushi places in the BR metro area.

Seriously, you should consider banning yourself for that remark.

These are all okay. I went to Rotolos tonight, and I've eaten there plenty of times in BR as well. But all three of these restaurants you named here are in BR and never anywhere near my #1 choice for food.

I just would rather direct a person traveling here to something great.. not something that's the best choice considering the area.

I agree. None of these would make my top 20 (possibly 50) in BR -- except Cafe Phoenicia, which I would choose as quickly as any place in BR for Greek.

The OP specifically asked where he could eat in DS. To respond that he needs to drive to BR to have a meal that is fit for human consumption is misleading and erroneous. He did not ask where he could have an enriching culinary experience, but where he could eat. He may well want to enjoy fine dining in a white tablecloth restaurant. If so, not going to find it in DS.

When I have traveled for business I have stayed in towns where there is literally no decent place to get a meal, and the last thing I wanted to do after working all day was drive to an adjacent town to find something. This is not necessary in DS.

Longhorn is every bit as good or better than any Outback which is certainly popular in BR.

Geisha would rank #3 or #4 on my list when including all sushi places BR to DS. I would put it right under Ichiban, Waka and Yama.

The greek place is good

Big Mikes is a good sports bar with a good shimp corn soup.

There is a La Carreta.

Oh and Waynes BBQ is much better than anything served in BR.

Dons Seafood is ok.

What DS is lacking is a really good seafood place and Italian place. Maybe some decent pizza joints and good burger place.

The area sucks most for lack of sports bars though.

I would expect you would see more restaurants opening up in the next 5 years.

You have to remember restaurants make a ton of money on selling alcohol. Which has been taboo in LP for years which is finally changed. (for the most part)

It is funny how BR people are making fun of people in DS for having the same popular places to eat they have though.

shite I live outside of Walker and some nights I would kill just to have a Chilis close by.

Only places I have to eat without driving to DS are Sherwood Po-Boy a mexican joint, catfish joint or fast food. Nobody wants to open a place to eat here because until recently you could only sell light beer.

Yeah, I kind of assumed that is alot of the problem. A nice restaurant has to sell wine and liquor to make money and I know the culture in the LP is just not big on that.
Is it correct that restaurants can't do liquor on Sundays?

I think its city specific. In DS Im sure they can. In Walker.. Well there are not really any restaurants I have eaten at on a Sunday.

Its easy to see the impact the Blue Laws have had. Compare Walker to DS. Both are growing very fast. DS got rid of their blue laws something like 10 years ago I think. Walker just late last year. Virtually zero restaurants in Walker (and yes population has some impact here as well)

When the Juban Crossing stuff goes up I thing you will see the area intersect DS and Walker and restaurants will pop up in that area. Only thing opening in Walker now is Daiquiri places looking to cash in.

The first people to move to LP were the people looking to escape BR because it was getting to big.. Basically the keep the city small people.

Now the people leaving are the people looking to escape BR. So its going to take awhile to push those stay small people to Livingston then Hammond.

I live in BR and my degree/job is in no way, shape, or form related to the food industry, but I'd like to go to culinary school and open a small, nice restaurant in Denham. I think part of the problem is the difference among the types of people that live in Denham. There are some educated people that wouldn't mind spending some money on food, and there are some poor people that are quite ignorant and far from open minded when it comes to foods and such.

If you're coming to a food board and not asking for what's good, but instead asking what restaurants exist, you should utilize google. If you're going to ask live people about food in an area, it's assumed you're looking for quality food.. not "What restaurants exist in Denham"

He can google that.

ETA: I also hate that every time someone points out the difference in quality local food vs. chain food, white tablecloth is brought into the picture. My favorite restaurants are just as inexpensive as Chili's.

For sure. And living in Denham now and growing up the next town over, I find there is a bigger percentage of the people who don't give a shite than the intelligent people who want a quality meal.
