we've had electric and charcoal...then we bought THE EGG. knocks it out of the park every time. we got rid of the electric, the other charcoal smoker hasn't left the back of the house, and i haven't even fired up my grill since we bought it.

EGG is awesome.

I have a heavy gage offset smoker and would do it differently if I could sell this thing. Too much work. Too much baby sitting.

Watch BBQ U. He does all his smoking without offset or separate smoke box. I'd get the large pit from Sams with movable coal trays and just use indirect heat if I could do it over.

I have a 22-1/2" Weber Smokey Mountain that works great. It is commonly referred to as an WSM.

you should look at a wood pellet gril. I have the traeger grill at it is the easiest smoker I have ever used. Just load the wood pellets in and set the temperature to whatever you want and go to bed. It cooks from actual flmaes and the auger feeds the pellets at whatever rate it needs to to keep the temperature correct. Its the can't screw up way to cook smoke. Not geat for high heat cooking like searing a steak, but it is a great smoker... good luck.

I have a gas smoker that works great. I didn't think I would like it, but it does the job good. You only need anout an hour of smoke for any kind of meat...then just low and slow heat.

There's nothing wrong with an electric smoker..I have a Masterbuilt and love it, but if you have the coin i'd definitely go with a green egg.
