I say this all the time. Why can't we have a good freaking Jew deli?

If Slow's premise is correct, how exactly would he be able to "prove you wrong" by picking a place?

Right

And perhaps a deli isn't a good example

But you could probably pick a handful of other types of restaurants that serve great food and MDT would still clamor for more. What he should be doing is supporting the shite out of the good establishments that BR does have.

Maxwell's in BR is a "happy place".

I grew up in Lafayette, so obviously Laf > BR or Nola.

I'm not sure the doorways in all of those establishments are wide enough to fit that cross he's dragging around with him

I got no dog in this hunt. I live in the place devoid of any decent food. But I visit both NO and BR quite often. Name it Slow. I have searched BR and and can't find them. The BR usual suspects just don't measure up to those in NO. I would like to hear where they are so I could give them a try.

I don't want to speak for him, but I don't think that's his point exactly and I would absolutely agree with you.

I think you may just be missing some of the dynamics here.

I have never been to Stein's but have heard many raving about it. I am sure that it is good though, sysco or not.

If I am in New Orleans and looking for a luch/deli like place, I'm heading to the warehouse district to Cochon Butcher. They do all of their meat products in house, their sandwiches are as delicious as they are unusual, and I bet they don't spend squat at sysco!

I would love have a place like this in BR. I highly doubt that a place like this has ever existed in BR, if I am wrong please correct me.

i don't know the deli scene of BR. for all i know it's not above the quality of subway. NOT a deli guy (my WOP roots cry)

Cochon Butcher.

it's ok, but it lacks normal sandwiches which takes a great deal away from its score, imho

That's assuming his premise is correct, which it's not

how many studies do you want me to link showing that taste is STRONGLY linked to atmosphere/expectations?

Not too much to ask for someone saying my perspective is skewed. What about Slow's perspective?

dude i didn't say "x-store is better than steins." i said your expectations create your sensory stimulation. you WANT nola to be better, so it WILL taste better. you WANT BR to be inferior, so it WILL taste inferior

this goes perfectly with the studies that show you can serve groups of people the same food, and when you tell them that it's from a fancier restaurant or is more expensive, they will say it tastes better. THE SAME FOOD. it's perception, expectations, and THEN taste

I don't think people go to Butcher for a normal sandwich. I don't.

Do you have a real point or are you just pissed at Mike for being a food snob?

BR Has no Steins or Cochon Butcher or anything on that level IMO, and I'm hoping that if Link decides to bring Cochon to BR, he brings butcher too. It's the gem of that relationship IMO.
