I find this statement to be way off... just with what's available in Louisiana.

Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale
Northern Hemisphere Harvest Ale
Estate Grown Harvest Ale
Brux collaboration with Russian River
Life & Limb collaboration with Dogfish Head
Beer Camp series
Narwhal Imperial Stout
Ovila Belgian-style series

Ruthless Rye

Their 30th anniversary group was fantastic last year.

Celebration is...amazing.

I'm becoming more and more of a fan of SN. They have some misses (Beer Camp 2012 included) but for the most part put out excellent brews. And their regular lineup is very good for such a large brewery.

That wasn't even a miss for me.

So, is Abita's "problem" that they are mostly a German style craft brewer?

I listened to an interview with a representative of Abita and he said they tend to brew lagers and such because of the weather here.

I've always been a fan in terms of quality.

I think the SNPA is the standard upon which all other American Pale Ales can be compared.

Abita is not a "craft" beer. They are along the lines of Sam Adams. Started small, and now they are national.

Abita isn't even close to being in Sam Adams league imo. Sam Adams still produces interesting beers outside of their Boston Lager.

For the price, I would never buy a SA beer.

That's one reason I find their stuff very meh.

Of the 19 beers in their lineup, 10 are lagers.

-Amber
-Light
-Golden
-Purple Haze
-Mardi Gras Bock
-Wheat (who makes a wheat lager?)
-Fall Fest
-Strawberry
-Andygator
-SOS

They have a bad IPA, no double IPA, no porter, no stout, no saison, no smoked beer, no blonde ale, no amber ale. So much of their stuff revolves around German lager styles. And that just isn't my cup of tea.

Compare that to NOLA. They've got a blonde, a brown, a good IPA, a damn good DIPA, a stout, a saison, a wheat ale, a red ale, and a smoked rauchbier. There's not a lager among those 9 beers. And I like every one of them better than anything Abita produces.

There are very few Sam Adams beers that I enjoy. They are more imaginative than Abita, but they seem to have more misses than hits. I enjoyed the New World Tripel and Fat Jack recently.

Exactly. That's not even mentioning Hoptimum. They also have a stout, a porter, and a hefeweizen in their regular lineup, all of which are missing from Abita.

When I tried the New World Tripel on tap during craft beer week I thought it was god awful. Maybe the bottle are better?

List the ones that are not good.

Dogfish Head will try anything. They don't always make a winner, for sure. I've had several from them that I haven't enjoyed. They've had some swings and misses, but they are willing to take a chance. Abita doesn't even get up to the plate.

And one more point for the Abita fans, ask yourelf why is it that Stone came all the way to New Orleans to collaborate on a beer with a 4 year old brewery (NOLA), and not the 16th biggest craft brewery in the country that's been around for 26 years?

Kind of ironic considering their name.

Could be. I enjoyed it out of the bottle. The Thirteenth Hour stout I had last night was god awful. Tasted like it was infected though.

I tried the stout a while back and thought it was alright, nothing too special but not a drain pour either.
