If they offer it, you do it.

I would love to eat a place like this, but I am such a picky eater I'm afraid I wouldn't enjoy the food. My wife and I love fine dining, but I am more of a meat/potatoes palate with very little vegetables. I have tried and tried but I just can't eat some of these things. The thought of showing up to a restaurant and not knowing what the menu will be spooks me. We ate lunch at Bouchon last time we were in Napa and loved it, but stepping into a Michelin star experience is a different ballgame.

We did the pairing. It was awesome, best meal we’ve ever had. This ain’t the place to try and save $

This thread made me realize how poor I am.
I cringe at spending $100 on a meal, much less $1000.

There's no meal in the world worth that to me unless I was worth like $15+ million. I'm not
I feel similarly but French Laundry would likely be the exception I would make. It's a bucket list type of meal. $1300 to knock something off the bucket list? Ehhh...not as intimidating, imo.
That said, it's expensive to even get the opportunity given how expensive Napa is. Flights, lodging, food/wine during stay, plus a $1300 meal? I don't love wine enough to make a vacation out of it. If I had a reason to be in NorCal (I don't) and could just take a single night excursion during my visit for dinner at FL and a hotel/airbnb up the road, I'd do it.

No hate, but this would totally suck to be plagued with.

Rather than have a different glass of wine per course (which can get tedious and doesn’t allow you to see how a wine develops) we had 2 bottles and 2 other glasses.
I honestly agree. I’m perfectly happy to admit that my wine palate isn’t sophisticated enough to get the complexities of each wine complimenting each dish with a pairing. I’d much rather get a bottle of something really fantastic and have it throughout the meal.
That being said, I severely doubt I’d walk away from a meal with a wine pairing at any 3-star restaurant in the world and say “well that sucked”
