You really need something pretty bold with a big zin especially California zins. It’s perfect with steak.

Can't thank you enough for introducing his wines to me. I love all of them, but tend to go with Freakshow the most. I've tried several of the old vine Lodi Zins not by him, but have only found a couple I like. Got anymore Zin or Zin blend suggestions?

Smoking Loon cab sav is surprisingly not bad at $6 per bottle.

Have you had the zin yet? Just released a couple months ago.

The ridge ones I listed before are very good. Three valleys and Lytton springs. Both zin dominant blends at about 70% Zinfandel.

Oak ridge has some good stuff from Lodi. Their Moss roxx is an enormous zin, but good.

The aforementioned 8 years in the desert is Dave phinneys first zin based blend since his non compete from selling off the prisoner ended, which lasted 8 years hence the name. Pretty good bottle, but my next bottle will sit in the cellar for a year or so.

My new daily drinker is Apothic Crush. It is pretty delicious for $10

Speaking of Prisoner, my Vivino just sent me an offer for Prisoner as part of it's "12 Days of Wine"

I don't know about Costco, but my Sam's club always has a healthy stock of Prisoner at $37 which is about $10 cheaper than at Rouses

Zuppardo's always has surprisingly low priced wine. It's just such a weird store, tho...

Since Dave Phinney stopped making it, I have not been a fan.

I'll never forget 7-8 years ago when Bin 77 was still The Grape, they were trying to push out the last of Prisoner before the first non-Dave batch was released because they bought a boatload of it. They were selling it in the restaurant for $30 a bottle. Literally told the waitress to open a new bottle as soon as it gets to 1/4th a bottle.

I saw it this weekend while on a beer run. Greenish tint to the label. Will definitely be trying.

Oak Ridge is one of the lodi valley zins I tried and liked. I don't recognize the other 3. So will give them a shot. Thanks.

It’s nothing but a name now and they’ve been putting out this sad obvious copycat Orin Swift labels the past couple years. Imitation mercury head and papillon labels so far.

Papillon

The cuttings

Mercury head

Derange

Each one is at the same price point as the Orin Swift one.

I never had the OG prisoner, but people have told me 8YITD is close.

Yeah green label is the Zin. Light blue and red is the cab and the dark blue is the red blend. All great stuff.

I had both of the ridge zin blends over the last month. Both are fantastic. Definitely more on the dry side which I prefer.

I bet that’s good. I have a 2014 or 2015 at the house. I can’t remember. Bought it a year ago and just saving it. I had it at the tasting room, but they went through everything so fast I didn’t get to really think on each wine.

Holy shite that was good, TH. Huge, and right in the sweet spot for me. Thats the color and boldness I really like. Definitely one of my favorite Zins.

The plain $17 Oak Ridge is on the menu tonight, but I can't imagine it will be as good. When you or the wife come across a bottle with flavor that big/bold again, please let me know.

Joel Gott is our daily drinker zin. 12.79 at Costco.
Seghesio is good also, at about $21.

Also like Sin Zin and Frank Family Zin or cab.

Saskwatch

I never have drank very expensive wine. Even my cultured palate knows that if you are paying more than $25ish for a bottle you are throwing your money away.

But since you asked, these are what i usually drink:

Red:

Any Malbec from Chile, Argentina or Peru
Beaulieu Vineyard (BV) Beau Tour Cabernet
Louis Jadot Beaujolais Village
Ruffino Chianti Classico Gold Label
Bell’Agio Chianti

White:

Ruffino Orvieto Classico
Fontana Candida Frascati Superiore

I'd much prefer to drink great bourbon vs. wine.
