This.

Only exception is when Costco has their whole prime beef tenderloins available. However, individual cuts, HEB is the go-to for prime.

And if you don’t see what you want in the display case, ask the butcher. Many times I’ve gone there and had me cut a couple prime porterhouses.

As a couple of others have mentioned, it's a well run store. Rarely shelves are empty. My history with H-E-B goes back to 1993 when I was living in Temple (Central Texas). I quickly learned from my coworkers born and raised in that area that it was "the grocery store". I've been in the DFW northern suburbs since '97 and they have built several mega stores in the DFW 'burbs over the last couple of years.

With all that said, it's not anything special to me. I shop organic and they do have good prices on some of the organic items we buy.

…deep breath

When you walk in…the fresh salsa near the cut/prepared fruit..specifically the salsa molcaejte…marvel at the produce…every time I visit my in-laws in New Orleans and go to any grocery store I thank my lucky stars for my HEB(Washington Ave stand up)…swing by the bakery for the mitad y mitad tortillas…move forward to the deli…any HEB Post Oak smoked meat or cheese will do…but the post oak smoked ham shaved thin from the deli makes a fine fricking sandwich…as does the post oak pimento cheese…someone else mentioned El Gallo salsa verde, for sure grab that, also grab the Taco Deli salsa Doña…if you like to smoke or grill, grab any of the Meat Church spices…Julio’s tortilla chips…Rambler sparkling waters have replaced Topo Chico in my house…that should get you started

Every time I go visit my mom that lives in Texas, we buy the marinated fajita meat - chicken thighs, beef and pork (when they have pork). It’s the best.
Also the store made tortillas are good too. Wish we could get an HEB in Louisiana.
