In an agriculture related sense, if I wanted my money to work for me, I would invest $100,000 in an organic, medicinal marijuana farm in Colorado.
If I wanted to work my arse off, I would open a dessert shop or Patisserie with cakes and cookies and serve coffee and after dinner drinks, wine and champagne but I don't think 100,000 would be enough to get the doors open.

I agree. 30 years ago, there was one in midcity BR. I want there to be a reliable Jew in this town from which I can buy Matza Ball soup so I don't have to always make it myself when I'm sick. My shikza SO can make the matza macaroons, but bless her heart when she tries to make matza ball soup.
I want to be able to get the soup and sandwich with a classic pastrami on rye and cup of matza ball soup. Is that so much to ask for?

Or some whitefish or lox and bagels? I mean damn. Look at Katz's, Kenny and Ziggy's (both in Houston). always packed.
Gimme some badass pickles, chopped liver, etc. I mean look at this menu: LINK

The problem is we just don't have enough oy, too much goy, around here. There simply isn't a large enough population of people with that skill set around here that can make the stuff. It's like trying to get good boudin in New Orleans.
Maybe we could pool together our resources and get Cajun Kosher to set up another shop in BR?

I think a lot of people in this thread have little idea how expensive it is to get into the food industry... 100k would probably be enough to for a hobby/side job type of business, but nothing close to owning a franchise.
So many people in south Louisiana can make good food, but turning that into a sustainable business is hard. Just finding a niche' (a food product/service that people will pay a premium for) and marketing ever living hell out of it is only one small piece of being successful.
I've been playing around with the idea of incorporating healthier-more trendy ingredients into traditional cajun cooking (Ex-Jambalaya with quinoa instead of rice), and marketing them to the health conscious as an additional alternative to all the other bull crap people way too much for.

I think most people on this board know 100K will not get you a franchise of any kind.

I'm sorry, but jambalaya with quinoa sounds terrible, but i would be willing to try it.

I think most do as most on this board think themselves as good cooks yet are still working in other industries. Things would have to be pretty desperate for me to open a restaurant.

I think if there was any type of restaurant that I could effectively run today, it would be a jambalaya shoppe type place which I would open within walking distance of LSU. The twist is i'd also have a late night shift to cater to the hangover crowd and market jambalaya as being THE hangover cure and the perfect food for sobering up.

I still have no idea why a Steak & Shake has yet to be opened around LSU's campus...

Like Mr. Wonderful would say, "Run, do not walk. Run away from this idea."

I would try to partner with someone opening a bar. I wouldn't want to worry about the day to day nonsense but I think I would enjoy owning a small stake in a bar. Obviously this would be dependent in the other partners involved.

Crawfish/shrimp/crab boil truck with a snowcone machine. Fryer for boudin balls/cracklins/beignets

I would bring back either SHAKEY'S Pizza or
JIM DANDY FRIED CHICKEN.

I would buy a few sno-ball trailers and take them out to the Phoenix and Southern California areas. Look for locations around college campuses and at the beaches.

seasonal and dead loss. Plus, it takes alot of room to boil crawfish. I wouldn't want to be on a truck with a burner.

I'd like to have a place like Country Kitchen in Gonzales that serves home style country cooking options and good desserts. I'm a sucker for these types of places
