I ate lunch with my daughter today.
2 soft taco shells
Some taco meat
corn
lettuce and tomatoes
apple or fruit cup
about 2 TBS of shredded cheese
chocolate milk, white milk or water
My daughter (7) ate 1 corn, beef and cheese taco. She then went to throw her tray away, I asked he why she took all of that food if she's not going to eat it..... she told me they make her. So, I asked her if she did this everyday and she said yes. I then started noticing all the food the other kids were throwing away and it was a lot. I'd say 7 out of 10 kids threw their apple away.

Salisbury steak was the shite. I also love the chicken fingers with the yellow gravy and rolls. Square pizza and fries dominated as well.
ETA: it was a sad day when my youngest finally got to middle school and it was no longer "cool" for me to show up and eat lunch with him.

I remember in grammar school and HS I would bring my lunch about 90% of the time. However, I would pick certain days to eat the cafeteria food based on the monthly calendar they'd give us each month. Spaghetti & meatsauce was good, as well the brunch days, taco days, and the pizza days with the cheese stuffed crust
. I also enjoyed the baked potato and salad bar at my high school. Shoestring French fries were legit too; after my sophomore year they had to start rationing them because we'd fill up our plates with fries and pour a lot Tony's on them
.
This thread inspired me to go look up my grammar school's and high school's lunch menus for this month
...and I am so annoyed that my high school serves breakfast now and they never used to, except during finals week!!
. They have a waffle bar, fruit parfait, French toast sticks, bagels, omelets, biscuits, English muffins, cereal, etc. I am super jealous right now

OP, did the french bread pizza in your cafeteria have cubed shaped pepperoni?

i want a roll
When I was in 2nd grade at Red Oaks Elem., I had to go take (something) to the cafeteria in the morning. They had a huge bowl full of roll dough, and the skeery cafeteria lady would just thrust her hand into it, squeeze tightly, and then everywhere the dough oozed out between her fingers was twisted off and plopped onto the baking trays and became a roll.
I was horrified yet mesmerized by the dough gushing out between her knuckles. I could never eat the rolls again.
50 years later, if there's rolls at Xmas or Thanksgiving dinner, someone always says "tell us about the cafeteria rolls again"....

vermilion parish (specifically JH Williams and AHS, the other schools like erath and kaplan can go to hell) had the best stromboli rolls ever made.
1 stromboli roll, with a chocolate milk pouch. yum.
