I was actually resonding to the guy who first mentioned El Rancho....and giving you a warning about it. A lot of people seem to enjoy Fernando's, though I've never had good luck eating there in regards to food quality. I do agree with the La Carreta's in Hammond; it's the only La Carreta's that has been consistently good.

Casa Maria is some of the worst Tex-Mex I've ever had. Ninfa's or La Carreta should be your choices for Tex-Mex in BR.

The reason why La Carreta in Denham may not be up to your expectations is management. Saul, the principle owner, is always at his Hammond location, sometimes at Amite or LaPlace (Adobe Cantina is a sister restaurant). Hector is the junior owner, and runs the Government street location. Consequently, the locations that don't have one of the top dogs there frequently won't be as consistent. La Carreta has some authentic dishes from Queretaro, overall it's a good (not the best) Tex-Mex restaurant.
Fernando's in Baton Rouge had a change of ownership (Colombians), so things are now done a little differently there. I have a buddy that works there, more Latinos are eating there now.
Ninfa's is by no means authentic, but I've always appreciated the consistency in food quality, and the service. Direct result of them having the same Mexican manager for over a decade. Plus I love the tortillas the little old ladies make.
Superior has a Salvadoran manager, but the food there is still mediocre. The place is a glorified bar, every review you will find of that restaurant online mentions the margaritas or people-watching, more so than the food.

I don't need to check it out, we're friends.
I'll save you the trouble of Googling "Saul Rubio" and show you the first result:

Admittedly spoiled living in Houston, but I swear the one on Government is < Taco Bell. Hammond, for whatever reason, is a bit better.

Clearly you're right. Is it just the spelling, or have we been mispronouncing it? Hopefully, it's two syllables, right?

The name is pronounced Sa-OOL in Spanish, as a Spanish speaker that's always how I pronounce it (unless the last name is Jewish).

Ahuas on Jones Creek is the best I've had in Baton Rouge.

I have eaten at the la carreta on gov., in amite, and hammond. The hammond location is the best. It has charm and consistent food. I liked the one on government the least. Overall, la carreta isn't a bad place. Good queso and margaritas. As for the best mexican in BR, I would choose a taqueria. I like taqueria mexicana 2 on jones creek as well as taco burrito express on sherwood. The always have fresh food, low prices, and good service. I really havent been going to texmex type places since finding out about taquerias. Theres nothing wrong with having variety and choices. I wish there were more variety in Baton Rouge regarding other cuisines. I would like to see more asian not focused on sushi or buffets.

Your past viewpoints on Latin food in Louisiana has already rendered your opinions worthless. Stick to talking about Applebees in Houston.

Applebees in houston?? they dont have those where i live. I find it funny that you think you are the only one in Louisiana who knows what good latin food is. LA Carreta is a joke, give me some places you think are the best latin food around br and even new orleans and ill go try them

It's not like he's claiming it's the best place in the world. He's just saying that YOU don't know WTF you're talking about.
I've never met Afreaux and wouldn't know how qualified he is to critique Latin food...but being exposed to a lot of more authentic stuff in Southern Cali, I can say he at least appears to be in the know. Seems to have a pretty good handle on "non Mexican" latin food as well.

The La Caretta's in Hammond has gotten worse IMO... It used to be very good, but the last couple times i havent enjoyed my food and the salsa was nasty. Adobe in Hammond is much better, and also Mi Patio in Ponchatoula is great!

I ate at Fernando's when I was about 13 weeks pregnant... Dont know if it was the morning sickness or what, but the food was just nasty. I might like it now, but im not sure.
