When I fished a lot as a kid, I would always hear how lemonfish was like the hardest thing to catch...I never got one.

Not really. They tend to gather around floating structure like driftwood or something that can make a shadow maybe a small patch of floating grass and are curious to the noise of the boat. Once you get one hooked normally you can keep him in the water and a couple of more will come up. I had a 70lb on once and kept him at the side of the boat for about 20 minutes until they hooked three more. My arms looked like Popeye when I got done. I had a drinking problem the rest of the day.

Absolutly... last year I had a 40lb'r hooked up at the boat when another came up right next to him nice and easy. My buddy grabs the gaft and free gafts the SOB right there. Got him all the way straight into the fish box when that bastard went nuts and jumped over our heads back out the boat..craziest thing I ever saw. Don't think we will try that again.

Chelsea's
I know a lot of people like it, but I don't think enough people realize the food is as good as it is...especially just for bar food.
I can't think of any nice places that I would consider underrated.

I've never had a bad meal at this location or the old one. Chicken fried Chicken is my go to meal there and it never disappoints.
Miss sitting out on in front of the old one in the spring sipping a beer an watching all the women wander by...

Impastatos is underrated IMO
I'll be there in a couple of weeks.
However, my answer to the question is the Pelican Club. Its excellence flies under the radar IMHO.

I liked Impastato's, but the food was very average the one time when I went.

El Potrillo/Tequila in Lafayette is the best Mexican I have ever had. Also very cheap and fast.
(They have two different restaurants one on the Nortside and one on the Southside)

Second the Degas and Chelsea's. Depending on your definition of "underrated," I think Le Petite Grocery and Lilette both fly under teh radar, comparatively speaking. I don't know, I guess it really depends on who you ask (eg foodie types vs non foodie types).

Lilette
One of the five or six best restuarants in the city. FWIW, uptown just might be the home to three of the best five places in town.

chef is a hell of a cool guy....but i was always that the place rarely looked full when i walked by. Have never seen a wait, and often looks not too packed. The food is very good.

not sure if it's underrated, just b/c everyone i know that has eaten there loves it.

Right, but you probably roll with a typically foodie-type crowd. I think you almost need to divide it between food people and non-food people to try and get a good answer. No idea how you'd go about doing that though.

I would also clarify that my opinion is NOLa biased because that's where I live, and I didn't get to eat out a lot in college in BR.
