We always spend Christmas Eve at my parents and Cristmas Day at my in laws.
This year while planning our Christmas Eve dinner, my mother, sister and sister-in-law decided that since everyone has two Christmas dinners to go to, and they thought everyone would be tired of turkey and all the fixins, that we should have a mexican food night. Everyone was supposed to bring Mexican dishes.
This did not please me, but I complied. But I also brought a Swanson's Hungry Man Turkey/Dressing Dinner and as everyone sat down with their plates filled with Mexican food, I brought out my TV dinner.
Everyone laughed, but my point was made. My brother even admitted that he wanted turkey but didn't want to cause a fuss.

What is everyone's opinion on "alternative' holiday meals?

It's called tradition for a reason!

We always get a huge standing rib roast that is just immaculate when slow roasted.

Chinese take out is allowed, but only after the Christmas dinner is ruined by the neighbor's bloodhounds.

I wouldn't go for it. I'm sure cooking "mexican" to my brother and sister would consist of them emptying the contents of an old el paso taco kit and dumping bag of cheese on it, so I'll pass.

Tradition gets routine at times. I am all for breaking tradition as long as the food is good.

Yup. Some guy gave my mother an entire wild hog he'd killed so she could turn it into tamales for him for the holidays just before Thanksgiving. Said his kids eat them everyday when they came home from school-going to be some fat arse kids.
