Poboys for some reason in Baton Rouge suck. I don't understand why it is so hard to get a good one here, but it is.
No they don't...I lol at you posters who act like poboys, hamburgers & pizzas are so intricate that they can only taste good if they come from certain areas or places like NOLA, In-N-Out Burger or Johnny's Pizza.
Poboy:
good bread...doesn't have to be Leidenheimer's
meat or seafood
your choice of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.
condiments
Plenty of places in and around BR have all this for poboys, and they taste good.
Hamburgers are a little more complicated.....not
Hamburger:
hamburger bun
cooked ground meat patties that are seasoned
your choice of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.
condiments
Pizza:
pizza dough
tomato sauce
cheese
toppings
Now, if you want to kick your burger up a notch.

In the Ford Motor Company's executive dining room, Henry Ford II rarely ate anything but hamburgers. According to Lee Iacocca, Ford complained that his own personal chef at home couldn't make a decent burger. In fact, no one made burgers as perfect as the ones at the executive dining room. Curious, Iacocca asked the establishment's chef to show him what he did to make Ford so happy with his burgers. The chef went to the fridge, grabbed an inch-thick slab of New York strip steak, ran it through a grinder, patted up a patty and tossed it on the grill. "Amazing what you can cook up when you start with a five-dollar hunk of meat," said the chef with a sly smile. (Though it would be more like a $25 hunk of meat today.)

Sorry Skillet, but I disagree. Just because you have the general ingredients doesn't mean it's going to be a good final product.
Where? And please don't say Dempseys, which IMO is the most overrated place in BR.

Naturally you'd take that stance because of your original statement

Still haven't found a poboy in BR that I'd go out of my way for, and I've had em all, pretty much.
lol again at your ignorance. Where exactly would you go out of your way to, just to get a magical POBOY? You'd go to NOLA and back just for a poboy?
Allen Iverson "it's a poboy mayne, a poboy"
I'll name just a few places around BR that I'd go to, order, eat, and enjoy the poboys.
Willies on Cloverland---very tasty
Dempsey's---OMG I said Dempsey's..I joke about the lima beans at Dempsey's and rag them about a few other things, but their fried fish, shrimp & catfish poboys are very tasty to me..Not a fan of some their meat poboys, but many others are.
Mason's Grill--I enjoy the Cuban poboy there.
Pocorello's--Meatball poboy

I guess I should have specified that I am looking for a ROAST BEEF poboy. Actually, I think I did say that. The entire reason why I went to NOPB&G was because of the favorable reviews I read on here, including ones that said the rb was great. Well, it wasn't. Haven't found any in BR worth a shite. Shrimp/catfish/oyster may be a different story but I'm not big on fried seafood.

I keep hearing on here that Uncle O's has a good RB poboy. I'll have to try it. And yes, if we're strictly talking about RB poboys than I agree, too many places use Manda's or other meh sliced meat.
My female likes the pot roast poboy at Acme, and it's been awhile since I've had one but the French Dip at Brewbachers used to be pretty good.

I agree that Uncle O's is probably the best I've found.

Want a place that cooks their own roast beef?
Tommy's Fishhouse has a very good roast beef poboy. Debris style and has a subtle smokey flavor. Youll need a lot of napkins.

What is the opinion on PastTime Jr. roast beef?

That's depressing. I had it a few weeks ago, and it was mayo dog shite. Bread was garbage, and poor execution on the fries.
And like you, I've also heard people rave about NOPB on here at length, and I suppose if you compare the likes of Uncle O's to that of NOPB, it probably does shine. That, and the fact that its a ton of food probably makes it a favorite.

I used to get this grilled philly shrimp there that was DYnomite.

I think Pastime's pizza is horrid; never had a poboy there.

i enjoy a poccorellos RB poboys

The roast beef and oyster are ok, but way too small for my liking.

Last two times I went it was Manda. Can't risk it again.

Pocorello is manda indeed. It's a better manda poboy than roccos though
Posted on 3/18/13 at 10:58 am to Earlie Mae
not bad, not great. Certainly worth it, but there are better options. I use to eat there a good bit before Rockets moved farther down Coursey.

If you don't use Leidenheimer's, Gendusa, or the bakery in NO East, then it's not a good poboy.
