I disagree. I think March-May, sometimes early June, and well as late Sept-November are months with a lot of mild weather, especially in the evenings.
And if you have a pool, the whole summer is perfect.

This is not a knock against outdoor kitchens, but a knock against S La weather.
I'll give you spring (and we had a long one this year), but coolish weather doesnt show up til October usually, and then outdoor cooking usually takes place at a tailgate.

Outdoor kitchens, at least in South Louisiana, unfortunately are limited in their usefulness to about 2-3 months a year.
Don;t really understand this comment at all. Maybe not so much in Dec or January when it is the coldest, but why not use it in the Spring, Summer, and Fall? I use my green egg almost all months of the year. Why would anyone not use an outdoor kitchen?
Anyway, I was just about to post something on this subject. I'm building a house right now and am planning to have one built off the back of the garage. It is in the form of an L, with the bottom part of the L coming off the back of the garage. I am planning to build in the grill in that section. It will only be 3' by 3' though so I will have to use a 30" grill.
Then the other part of the L will be 8' by 2.5" and will mostly be used as a bar but I figure I should put a small sink in as well.
My space is obviously limited but can anyone think of something else that is a necessity? Maybe a burner, though Im not sure how much I would use it?

Let me clarify. I have no problem grilling or using the BGE outside no matter the heat, cold, rain, or snow. I tend to view outdoor kitchens as great places to entertain. When I entertain everyone naturally gathers in the kitchen. For most of the year, gathering outside and sweating, swatting flies, or the like just doesn't seem like an enjoyable way to entertain.
But on a nice Spring afternoon, being able to cook outside would be delightful.

Understood. I just spend most of my time entertaining outside in the summer becaue we have a pool, and plan to put one in the new house as well.
Plus summer is the time I'm home most because its not football or festival season.

You manage to put a swim up kitchen in your swimming pool, I'll cook for you whenever you want.

Right. My parents use theirs almost daily.

Ha, I wish, That was actually the plan initially. It was just too tough to pull off logistically and probably financially. The pool builder finally changed my mind becasue of the danger of in pool bar stools with little kids. It was one argument the wife won.

Total waste of money in S. La. Nice to looks at, nice to brag about..but really, I'M not going to sit on a patio in 96 plus heat to watch ANY game, nor am i going to get bit to hell by mosquitos for the ambiance of eating outside. Friends of mine have them, but never use it. Doesn't really add to the value of a house either. Meh, just me i guess

So don't use it during the day in June-August. Mosquito repellent systems aren't that expensive.
I don't know anyone who doesn't use theirs extensively. To each his own.

Agree to an extent. A friend of mine invoted me over to watch Game 6 of the Finals last week. He was cooking outside and wanted to watch the game. No way I was doing that. Now if he had a pool, it would have been a different story.
We do, however, watch the NCAA tourney outside at his house every year and its great.

I plan on installing our BGE into a granite countertop when we do our outdoor kitchen
