I think the inherent problem with chain restaurants is the same problem with any mass produced product – the product must be homogenized to appeal to a mass audience. The best selling whatever in the world, whether it be a book, movie, car, or menu item, is more often than not going to be pretty unchallenging, equally inoffensive, middle of the road kind of faire. There is nothing wrong with being successful in one of the most challenging businesses out there, but we all have to admit that some restaurant with 450 locations worldwide is not exactly going to be a culinary pioneer. More likely than not they’re just going to be following whatever popular food trend of the moment happens to pop up (chipotle anyone?) and capitalize on it.

Sure I like haute cuisine as much as the next guy, but sometimes all I want is a Nachos Bell Grande with extra jalapenos and a cold Miller Lite.

agreed, I've been there twice at the request of others several years ago and remember it being HORRIBLE both times and never understood how it has withstood the 'picky' BR food crowd.

the only hope was downtown or north BR, and that died a long time ago

Perkins Road overpass. Great neighborhood, bunch of restaurants, a grocery store, a boostore, a pharmacy, gift shops, etc.

The last time we ate there, our waiter couldn't find a little saucer for the dipping oil and told us that we were just "outta luck". We looked at him like he was nuts and T4E hopped up, grabbed a giant bowl, and we made our own (better) in the bowl. We haven't gone back on our own accord.

yeah, i used to live on Orpine as well as on perkins near the overpass. i did say this was the only such location in BR....and a damn fine area. If i were to ever move back to BR it would have to be in that vicinity.

That is a great area. I could eat out every night at a different place for a couple of weeks easy.

The "boostore" is Cottonwood Books, my favorite bookstore in BR.
