The real sandwich is sliced ribeye, fried onions, and whiz.
I ate at both pat's and gino's in Philly and actually preferred SOP. However a good poboy whips a cheesesteak any day

south of philly has provolone, as do all the cheesesteak places in philly. what's your point?
Yeah they have cheddar too but no one orders it. They all order cheeze whiz.
Anyway, I've been to Philly and had several cheesesteaks and IMO, the two places here in BR are not cheesesteaks.
A Philly cheessteak sandwich is like over a foot long of beef and gooey cheese. Not meat and onions and cheese served on a 6 inch hoagie roll.
South of Philly is about the dirtiest place in BR and was when it was the seafood place as well. People, that's why the other place went under....no one wants to eat ata disgusting restaurant.

Seems like you have some serious hate for SOP. If you think a 6 in is too small, then order the foot long! It's on the menu. Like I said, ive eaten them in Philly and its identical. Same ingredients, same bread.
I'm starting to think you work at Philly me up

I hate both places. I wish someone would open a real cheesesteak place and run both out of business. Cheesesteaks are not served on a hoagie roll.....maybe you ate a cheesesteak at the Ramada Inn in Philly.
As far as hating SOP, I hate any place that opens and doesn't take care of their establishment. They deserve to go under if they can't mow the grass.....no?

Uhhh South of Philly is served on bread that is shipped from Philly..
However the place is filthy and I just cant understand why they wont pull the fricking weeds out in the parking lot? Thats just a very bad impression it leaves on people when they get there.

Alright. You are retarded. I ate at Pat's and Gino's jackass. And their sandwich is identical to SOP. And the place looks grungy on the outside but inside it's always been very clean. Why don't you give them some time to settle in. It took Taco and Burroto Express a while before they started making the place look decent. SOP serves a damn good and tasty product. If you are so disgusted with the state of cheesesteaks in BR, then open your own place!

So they eat on bread shipped from Philly but can't mow the grass?
Step 1 to business: make your establishment presentable and inviting to customers.
Anyway, the cheesesteak was not like a Philly cheesesteak.

I'd love to open a good cheesesteak place. I just don't think there are enough people who want them or even know what a good cheesesteak is.
All this town wants is frozen fried seafood and friggin jambalaya.

And your last statement pretty much sums it up. Now STFU and let people who know food talk

I have given them time to settle in.. I like their product Im just not in love with it. They are also pretty pricey for what you get.
But there is ZERO excuse for the condition of the parking lot. They should have cleaned that up before they opened. Its not just bad its horrible. If the owner really cares about the place he would spend 2 hours of his own damn time and pull the weeds or pay someone. I dont know of any other business in BR with a more decrepit parking lot that serves food.
Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like.

I agree. We went oen time when it was the seafood place and they had expensive cash machines and kitchen equipment but the outside of the place looked horrible.....they had their restaurant priorities all wrong.

It's true. Even if South of Philly was a great place people wouldn't know a good Philly cheesesteak from their arse in this town.
The majority of people here want BS menu....fried cheese, fried shrimp and french fries. Did you or did you not have people wanting fried cheese on their best of Baton Rouge?
I hear people rave about places all the time and that's the menu. I mean how many ways can someone fry shrimp for Christ's sake?

These ARE real cheesesteaks. They get the same bread Pat's and Gino's uses flown in. They're not po-boy or hoagie rolls. Fact.
I've eaten there several times. The food is good, and cleanliness has not been a problem on the occasions I've been there.

Same guy insulting Opie saying he wasnt professional now insulting the citizens of BR.. Nice... What place do you own again?
First off I dont know anyplace in BR that is worth anything that uses all frozen seafood. Also if you dont know that fried shrimp is not the same everywhere then you are a moron.
But Im glad you speak for a city.

I like South of Philly. If the place makes good enough food, people will go there regardless of what the place looks like. Some of the best places I've ever eaten, looked like crap on the outside.

I would guess that those places were not located on a road like Sherwood Forest. Its one thing to have a dive in old areas of a town but its another to have a restaurant with a drive through in a newer area of town in a building that isnt but 15 or so years old where you drive over weeds to get to the drivethrough. I wonder how many people dont even stop by because they think he is closed?

Fried cheese was mentioned twice on a 4 page thread. I don't think fried shrimp was brought up. Why don't you read the rest of the thread and see people's responses.
As far as the parking lot, that's something I don't notice. Place has always been clean inside and the food (though a little pricey) is really good

If you are knowledgeable then hate away. But if you think BR loves frozen jambalaya and fried shrimp then all credibility is lost
