I'm kinda with Rag on this one. I don't care if you call yourself a steakhouse, chophouse, whatever. You have steak on your menu. Cook it right! It's not THAT hard!

Where did the OP say the steak wasnt cooked right?

Just because the steak he orders wasnt a prime cut doesnt meant it wasnt cooked right.

Scott's specialty is definitely not steak. I'm sure he would be happy if the "steak house" part was dropped all together.

If you ever asked him what to get off the menu, the answer would never be steak. It is there as an option if you have to have one.

If i were going out for a good steak, I would go to one of the Ruth's, Flemings, etc..

And just because it isn't prime doesn't mean it has to be underwhelming

What does that have to do with cooking?

Should Stroube's offer him a prime cut of ribeye? At the price he paid maybe. I have only had the NY Strip which is prime there and it wasnt lacking in flavor and it was also MUCH cheaper than 90 a head. I have never paid over 110 for a meal there for 2 which included appetizer and drinks each time.

That I see as expectations though.. The OP is obviously comparing the steak to Flemmings or Ruths which are prime cuts.

Thats just apples and oranges.

When Stroube's was a chophouse it wasnt any where near my favorite place to eat in BR. I always said Little Village had a better steak. But when Varnadoe took over he made the place a great place to eat but its becoming obvious he is trying to steer you away from steak.

Most of his dishes are all about flavor combinations. If you want to taste a good cut of steak then it wouldnt be the best place to choose to eat at.

Yeah, its more likely on there for that one person in the group who demands a steak. It shouldn't be the reason to go there.

Sadly the OP didn't know this before hitting it up. I'm sure his experience would have been more enjoyable if he did.

People need to understand this.

They cut thier steak options down and added seafood to the title. Steaks are there for people allergic to seafood or want something differnt, it' an option you have, but it's not a steakhouse. This is not a steakhouse first, seafood restaurant second. If you are looking for a great steak, go to a steakhouse. I don't know of any "seafood and steak" restraunts that compete with Flemings, Ruths, LV, etc on steaks.

Don't order italian at a mexican joint.

I've had the choice ribeye at stroubes, it was a very good steak. Is it better than a prime ribeye from Ruths, uh no. It doesn't take much to understand why.

you know what i mean ... those with seafood allergies are SOL since their only option is just an average steak with the excuse of "well, it's not a steakhouse" ...

I enjoyed the steaks when I have gone there, but I know before hand, a steak at a place like stroubes isn't gonna knock my socks off, or may not compare that favorably to the steaks at a well known steakhouse.

If you go to GW fins and order a steak, and it's not dynamite, dont come crying to me.

and i think everything you put on a menu at a supposed five-star restaurant should be five-star quality .. why do they get a mulligan at those prices ?? if you don't want to serve steaks, don't put it on the menu ... i can see some things being better than others on the menu at a bj's brewhouse, olive garden, texas roadhouse ... places like that ... but not when people are dropping $150+ on dinner .. sure, you can't expect everything to be perfect .. but you can't fall back on the "well, we aren't a chophouse anymore .." excuse either ...

no one said that .. but the steak experience should equal that of the duck or seafood experience ..
