Of course - now I want to go to a Fogo and see what it's like.

Much better than Texas de Brazil, so you'd be in for a treat if you loved TDB. In any case, I was happy with TDB, at least with the coupon.

Went last night...bar service was very slow as was the dessert....Food was good (a little salty on the crust sides of the meat)...but really at $50.00 a head I could do better...with coupon it was worth it even with the $7.00 beers...Table of about 16 next to us all using the coupons...must be friends of catman
PS...the grand opening of Perkins Row will be the sunday after Thanksgiving...see everyone there.

I can see why these places would have their fans, so don't mean to disparage them, but it's just not a nice place to eat IMO. But I've only been to the one in Dallas, so maybe others are better/different.

I'm surprised that you and a few others have a negative opinion of it.

i've seen multiple posters say the meats were dry and overcooked.

Maybe it's restaurant specific, but i've been to the one in Orlando probably 6 times and it is phenomenal.

I've eaten at a few steakhouses and it is very comparable. Maybe not QUITE as good as most, but they make up for it with the variety of all the meats you can have.

I love it, personally.

Alright, I tried Texas de Brazil in Perkins Rowe last night.
Used the coupon. Major thanks to the poster that brought this to light.
The food was good. I tried every meat they had to offer and I did not find any of it dry. I do see how some would be turned off by the salt taste on the outside of the meats. I enjoyed it. I tried one of their specialty drinks and it was great. I can't remember the name of it. It was a lime based drink with citrus vodka. The salad bar was robust and the desserts were above average.

On to the bad. The service was terrible! I had to get up three times to have our waiter take care of our table. Once for drinks, once for dessert, and once for the check. This was after giving him ample time to take care of the table. It was not his fault completely. He had a demanding 10 top to go along with way too many tables he was working by himself. Management needs to either staff more or strategically reposition some of the staff.

Overall it was a good experience. The coupon helped. I would have been disappointed without the discount given the service.

Ok I was able to try it too last night..

I tried most of the meats. The thing this location lacks right now is consistency. The location in Dallas has that. This location was almost the exact same as the trip I had to Fogo de Chao in Houston.

Restaurant - Very beautiful restaurant its does have the look of a very nice place 8/10

Service - I dont know if it was because it was Tuesday and they know people are using the coupon (shouldnt matter since they include tip prior to discount) But the service was pretty slow. They should have been removing the salad plates instead of us having to get up and get a clean plate for the meats. Our server was hard to get a hold of and was very hard to understand. Also getting the gouchos tovisit our table was tough since we were surrounded by large tables so they ran out of food on those tables. But we asked our server and it got better 5/10

Salad Bar - Was actually very good. I liked the choice of fresh cheeses and the dried meats. Why do they even bother to have sushi on it? To me that was tacky though. 8/10

Meat -

Chicken - Here was a hit an miss item. The bacon wrapped chicken was horribly dry however the parmesean crusted drummets were not and decent. 4/10

Pecanha - (Sirloin) This is where I like South American cooking. The ability to take a rough cut of meat and make it flavorful and tender. I could see where some people would find the outside salty but I really enjoyed this one 8/10

Garlic Pecanha - More flavorful cut but its not carved like the regular Pecanha 7/10

Flank Steak - This is where consistency would pay off. First time I had it was amazing. Reminded me alot of the Hangar steak at La Boca and was actually just as good. Second time it was cooked a little more and not as good but still great. This was my favorite meat there 10/10

Leg of Lamb - Also very good. By now Im learning that if its carved = great if its just on a skewer its ok or maybe dry. 9/10

Beef Ribs - didnt have it but they just didnt look all that great

Pork Ribs - very suprisingly good 8/10

Filet - What can I say its filet.. very tender but not a whole lot of flavor. 8/10

Overall I give the meats 8/10 Not as good as the location in Dallas but if they get consistent they can be very good. The carved meats were alot better than the rest but they did great with anything sirloin. I preferred the sirloin more than the filet.

Price - YIKES is all I can say when you see the bill without the discount. With drinks it was 220 for a table of 4. With the 50% off it was closer to 150 with tip included. (Much more resonable and I dont have a problem with 75 a couple with alcohol) Not sure if I would go more than once a year at full price but I have never eaten at one of these places for full prices since they always offer coupons) If the price were always 50% off then this would be an amazing place but at 150 a couple there are better options. 4/10

fwiw, catman, i just call the place average .. i wasn't blown away and i wasn't disappointed .. some items are really good and others taste like something i could have done at home in my microwave .. i did find the service to be slow and also noticed the chicken and sausage gauchos were constantly running around, but you had to look hard for the lamb and steak ones ... i went on a sunday night and paid full price unfortunately .. it is overpriced .. but i knew the price going in .. just hope BR supports it ..

I didnt have any sausage and I didnt see it until I was very full. I give them credit though they were not throwing chicken and sausage at us trying to get us full on the cheap stuff.

At full price I can see how it wouldnt blow you away. The flank steak was every bit as good as you will find at a top place like La Boca that gets alot of praise on here. I wish he would have just slid the whole thing on my plate. I can really understand though why the reviews are not consistent.

The food isnt consistent. Of course they have only been open a short time so hopefully they fix that. At full price you REALLY deserve it to be consistent.

I can also see depending on where you sit will affect you opinion as well. We just mentioned to our waiter what items we wanted to try and they all came by us. We never saw too many chicken gauchos.

Overall I would give the place an 8/10 with the coupon.. Without the coupon I would give it closer to a 6.5. (Due to price and inconsitency and service) But like I said this wouldnt be a place I would visit without a discount. Everyone at our table enjoyed it and all of us have visited other Brazilian steakhouses.

Red meat aplenty where we sat. I guess they are still working out some kinks as far as gaucho service goes.

I don't see this as being a repeat place. Maybe once a year type of thing for most people. It will be interesting to see what kind of business it is doing a year from now.

You rated every meat you tried on a 10 point scale?

Did you have a pencil and notepad at the table?

No I just have a really good memory.. Looked at their menu I have in the 225 extra and put it down. I give the South American places (Fogo, La Boca, Texas de Brazil) serious props for taking a forgotten piece of meat like sirloin and flank and hanger and making them into something that in many cases taste better than the staple of ribeye, filet and strip.

i think you hit the nail on the head there .. i don't see myself eating there, maybe one or two more times this calendar year ... it really isn't that big of a place and with the 7 parish population base, it might do OK if they continue the periodic coupon specials .. at $42.99 a head .. no .. people won't flock to that .. but at 25 to 50% off, i could see it happening ..

They don't need to continue using coupons, that place will do well like any other Brazilian steakhouse. The experience itself will be a big draw, and the high price tag guarantees that it becomes a "status" place to impress others by treating them there (or being seen there).
