Theres several reasons Zion isn't as good, the main one being borrego isn't building the offense around him and rightly so.

If you're going to be a completely negative at every facet of the game when you don't have the ball in your hands, then you need to be averaging 32+ ppg and 8 assists minimum or around there to be a truly elite player.

At one point, he really was an MVP-caliber player when he was actually on the court
He never remotely came close, unless you think he was as good or almost as good as Luka.

Luka never won an MVP. Zion at whatever you think was his peak was still miles behind Luka, on 2 different stratospheres.

Zion never sniffed MVP caliber players unless they were on the court playing against him.

Michigan did last year. Have any 5 star qbs signed with any mid tier teams recently?
The discussion wasn't about the past, it was about the future.
quote:

they will go to the schools offering highest NIL $. Those schools will still be the premier schools and not mid tier schools.

But if you're a premier school, why pay a ton of money for a dude to sit on your bench then possibly leave in 1-2 years?

Seems like a better use of money to let him get experience playing elsewhere, then pay that player in a couple of years to come to your school.

How will the portal affect high school recruting?

I see the elite 5 star QBs going to less and less big time schools where playing time isn't guaranteed, and instead going to mid tier schools where they can start day 1.

It just doesn't seem to make much sense for the top tier schools to pay top dollar for elite 5 stars to sit around for 2 years in their system when they can get playing time elsewhere for "free" to the top school, then the top school can invest in them when they're proven after a year or 2 of already playing.

So no one watched the show and debunk what she actually reported.

It's not others' job to debunk random stuff she says.

It's her job to show proof that it is true, which she never ever does.

Point being, there's nothing to debunk, literally nothing needs to be proven untrue, because she is just saying words, words are meaningless. Show proof, she can't do that though.

Let me guess…her sources will have more info at a later date?

And then there will be one tiny, not terribly important piece of information that will be proven true, and she'll use that to say, "SEE, I'VE PROVED THE ENTIRE THING!"

And folks will fall for it.

She's gone, out to sea and likely not coming back. No clue why folks believe anything she says at this point, it's all nonsensical.

There's a reason Borrego never got a HC job

And we're seeing it on the court
Our shot quality since Borrego took over is top 3 in the league.

He can scheme open shots, which he is doing, but he can't make them for the players.

Defense...we have an entire team of bad defensive players except for Herb who doens't play much.
quote:

just hire Michael Malone
Why would he have a single iota of interest in coaching this team? Especially if Zion is on the team...
We could have CJ McCollum on an expiring right now...
quote:

Don’t look now but Z actually kooks to be finally gelling with his teammates
Doesn't equate to wins.

We have a unique opportunity here to not be tied down by his contract. Would be very on brand if we don't take advantage of that.
quote:

Explain how just cutting Zion would help the team with the current cap situation.
Current, not much.

But Zion's contract being guaranteed will go on for much longer than just "currently" so we need to cut bait before the next guarantee kicks in.

again in their head people are assuming we told leavitt to frick off during the visit when willliams declared back in the portal

We didn't have to say anything to Leavitt, good or bad.

This isn't that difficult.

quote:

it's more likely leavitt made it clear he wasn't signing before taking more visits and offers. LSU tried to pivot so we didn't have to wait this out and come away with no one, didn't work out but the line of thinking wasn't wrong or impulsive.

It's more likely that all that happened while we were hosting Leavitt?

That's funny

There was never any indication that LSU even contacted Williams.

Welp there you have it, it never happened
quote:

Post your reasons why the Pelicans shouldn't below... the crazier the better

Because he's a negative value compared to his contract.

I wouldn't give up a single player or pick of value for him, not a one.

He's a below average basketball player right now.

That doesnt' even get into the fact that he's a head case and we're not a franchise that can fix that, it would likely just continue on same old Ja if he came here.
quote:

I mean you need to take what you can get for Zion.
And if it's nothing, you cut him.

Assuming Zion has zero value, we are absolutely better off cutting him and freeing ourselves from that contract.

What are we doing...
Not trading Zion and letting his contract become guaranteed is soooooo on brand for the Pels. Just awful.

We have the opportunity to rid ourselves of a negative contract, whether it's via trade or just cutting the guy, and we're going to refuse to do it.

There's not a person in the world who would be happy to add Zion and his contract to this team right now, so why would we not rid ourselves of Zion and his contract when we can do it, with or without another team helping us get there?

Just unreal if this is true and happens.
quote:

I'll trust Kiffin's evaluation of a QB
It's less so his valuation of a QB, and more so trying to go after a QB that wasn't even available and potentially souring the chances of having the #1 QB in the portal as an option to be the next QB.
quote:

Kiffin knows what he is doing
We were literally hosting Leavitt when the story broke that Lane was going to go after a QB who wasn't even in the Portal, and then Leavitt soured on LSU.

I'm not exactly convinced Lane is making good decisions with respect to getting a top QB in the Portal.

I said this a few times in the offseason that it was a big deal only to be told by quite a few posters
No way!!!

sure seems like hes been actively recruiting guys over to Ole Miss
Well he works for Ole Miss because LSU replaced him, so...
