It's a solid restaurant and probably the best Thai place in town.

I haven't been to the place on Prytania, since they moved, but I wasn't a big fan of it on Metairie Road.

Basil Leaf, Sukho Thai and Simaese are the three best I have found in NOLA.

It's probably my favorite ethnic cuisine, next to Vietnamese. The contrast of sweet and savory are not overpowering, and it's always fresh.

When people ask me what I miss about Chicago, I say "Thai." Haven't tried the few in BR yet but heard the one near Perkins is definitely worth a visit.

My favorite dish (though there are variations) is Pad Woon Sen (or Woonsen), which is chicken and shrimp stir-fried with green onions, carrots, and cellophane/bean thread noodles. Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) are always a good choice, as is anything with the Holy Basil.

On a related note, have you ever tried to cook Thai? The fish sauce is really something that takes getting used to, and I had a good brand, Tiparos. You really need some sugar to offset the plainly fishy flavor, but I recommend cooking Thai food, too. You'll need a few specialized ingredients, but the end result is complex flavors from uncomplicated ingredients.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Thai Kitchen in Southdowns. Their Pad Thai and Green Curry Shrimp is AMAZING. We go there about once a week. Mr. Sam (the owner) is really funny too.

Weird vibe in there. Their food is good, but I like the gritty, down home food that comes out of the Rama kitchen. Rama is pretty much pure Thai. Thai Kitchen dabbles in other cuisine.
