It was the LSU one

I was there last Tuesday and watched a group of people storm out pissed as all hell. Never caught what happened but I do know they hadn't been there long and weren't asked to leave (ie, they weren't being drunk assholes).
As someone else said, I've reached the point that I only hit it up for a pre Varsity concert beer or maybe to take in a few oysters on a Tuesday. Other than that, I think it's overrated and gets by on a.) location and b.) people's nostalgia.

No way. I LOVE Chimes. We eat at a lot of different places, but Chimes is our go-to place, sure you get an idiot as a server now and then, but where don't you? Their crab claws are the best anywhere (and yes, we go all over the place and compare them) and their beer selection is pretty great.

tigerbabe .. i'm not saying chimes is bad, it's not .. it is overrated, though, IMO ...

Those are two very big things to have working in their favor.

i can say that we ate lunch at parrain's (same owners)and they have cut back...the house salad was just lettuce ant tomatoes and croutons and their crab claws where big but they cut way back on how many the give you...oh and that salad felt like a rip off at almost 4 bucks...maybe it's just this recession why they're skimping!?

you see .. i just don't understand restaurants skimping now ... it seems that this is the time that want to attract customers, not fatten the bottom line ... food cost is down, way down .. the main driving factor in food cost is diesel for farming, production, and transportation .. it is less than half what it was in the summer ..

No crap, hunh?!
Sorry...that post came out totally butchered. Advisor walked in and wanted another chapter before tomorrow...hence the rushed post.
Here's my Chimes summary: great location, great atmosphere, marginal food, and declining service.

my only beef is i wish they would expand their menu just slightly.... i tend to order the same thing every time

The worst server in that place is the really large fat chick, other than her I've had no bad experiences there
We are talking about Chimes East, right?

I've never understood Baton Rouge's fascination with that place.

b/c it's fun and it reminds you of all of those late night study sessions back in college, spent there over a beer the night before a test (oh, and I waited tables there for 2 years and had a blast)

I like the atmosphere in The Chimes. great beer selection, shitty food. every city has one.

See, I don't get that. It's not 5-star restaurant, but no one expects it to be. The majority of their menu is pretty solid, in my opinion.
Plus it's a great atmosphere and features the most diverse tap selection in BR. (The Bulldog might have more draft beers, but the Chimes has a much better variety of different styles and regions...)
And yeah, service is always kinda spotty there, but you have to expect that, especially if you're there in the evenings when it's acting as a bar as much as a restaurant.

Maybe the reason I don't see it is because I didn't go to LSU, but to me it's no better/worse than Walk On's.
