Thanks for this - we are gonna go look at Best Buy this weekend just to get an idea of the components some of these box systems have and start from there along with your list. Our main goal is to stay in his budget (he has saved up for this but I will help out) start with something he can play on but still be upgradeable as his skill set grows.

Those prebuilts will look good on the shelf but certain components like the mobo, psu and RAM will be low quality generic garbage.

The CPU coolers are what look worse to me from what I've seen.

Appreciate all the responses - our sitters brother is an avid gamer and has offered to help my son build his computer - I will watch over their shoulder just to stay up with the times LOL

Posted on 2/17/19 at 3:36 pm to swanny297
There are other alternatives to getting it

MS Devices
Can have multiple machines per account using same "license" of Win10.
Means if you already have an authorized copy of Win10 running on a PC and link that to a MS Account then you can use a USB stick to install Win10 and then login just like on your original machine to MS Account and it will link the new machine to the same license of Win10.
I think it's a limit of 10 devices with Win10 Home and 20 devices per Win10 Pro per license. Very generous.

This is what we are thinking - what do I need to change and do I need an additional cooler?
$190 for a 1050 Ti? Good lord.

I checked on line and with our IT guy at work and you can only share a license key if you are updating another home computer from an earlier version of windows. I have an OEM version on a home computer and will have to buy another copy for the gaming computer unless someone can tell me or email me another way.

Thanks again everyone - we put his system together today with the help of one of his buddies - everything went great and he was up and playing. Only issue is we need a little more at flow out of the case so we have a couple more fans ordered.
