That's odd, you should have gotten a chest key and some tokens. At least I did when we beat dogs.
ETA: you have to go to the underbelly to find the corresponding keys chest. I got two exotics out of two chests in the Underbelly.

I got demolished by a guy yesterday who was playing hunter golden gun. Guy had better devils and was really good with it. You could tell he was playing it right, constantly breaking line of sight and popping shots off from different places and kicking everyone's arse. I feel like that's how you have to play with a hunter, I'm just not that good at it with the new maps yet. I constantly find myself in a bad spot.

While Nightstalker does seem weak, it's a great and fantastic class if you know how to use it.
The invis and smoke grenades make it top tier when it comes to flanking. You have no idea how many times I freak the frick out because something shows up next to me on my radar only for it to be a smoke grenade

Idk if the chest keys are guaranteed drops, but if you beat an encounter for the first time that week you should have at least gotten some tokens to turn into the Raid vendor (which you can't actually do until you beat the raid).
The one thing I hate about the raid is that actual loot drops are rare after beating an encounter. The only guaranteed loot drop that isn't tokens is Calus.

What I did was complete my milestones (not nightfall or the raid) Crucible XP, Clan XP, and Flashpont(is really easy). This got me close to 280. After that, I did public events with a fireteam medallion and picked up a couple of gold engrams. I used these, and other legendary stuff stashed, to infuse equipment I like. This got me to 280. Once I hit 280, I made some mods and got me to 284 which is where I am now. Tuesday is the reset. I hope to get close to 290 with this stuff.
ETA: Another thing I did was the Mida quest. I got a the Mida Mini tool (290) and the Mida Multi Tool (295). If you do it now, you light levels will be different, but it will help you overall.

I guess I need to give Nightstalker a serious run. I've never used it in PvP because the super is so awful and generally useless. I'm fairly good with the golden gun, but you're right, it doesn't offer anything on the neutral game.
That, or just reroll a Titan or Warlock and feel more useful in Trials.
Is there any hint that Hunters might get a PvP buff? I haven't really kept up with any forums or anything.

The super needs to be changed back to where if you hit someone with the tether it kills them. It's ridiculous it doesn't right now.
But tether has always been a very situation super in PvP. Most people hold onto it and if used correctly, can cause a complete team wipe.
There were people in D1 who used the artifact with the subclass that took away the super and granted an additional grenade and melee charge. It's never been used for the super, but rather for the invis, evasiveness (which w/ shadstep gone, kind of sucks) and smoke.

The double wombo artifact was pretty sweet at times.
Tether definitely needs to kill people when you hit them in the top of the head with it.

yea I feel hunter is just not used properly or to its full capability.
so people say it isn't as good as the other two classes as a cop out to not being able to properly utilize the class

I rolled a titan and warlock in D1. warlock was my first. never leveled a hunter
went titan first in D2 and currently leveling a hunter. kinda wish I had went with a warlock after reading the comments here

New to Destiny? What will happen is Warlock and Titan will get nerfed. MIDA will get nerfed. Bungie has a way of nerfing what everyone uses. They don't buff too often.
But yes changes will happen a lot. They have already mentioned that they know hand cannons are under performing and they are okay with this not being hand cannon "season".

Unfortunately, it seems like Bungie fricked every hardcore player with content this time around.
I honestly miss hunting weapon rolls. I will never experience pure joy again like i did when My rifled Barrel, rangefinder and LITC Eyasluna dropped.
