PVE should be Cross platform enabled but pvp should not.

Probably the redux missions and crucible wins. The rest is easy as long as you optimize for efficiency.

Has it been stated if the weapon/armor upgrades will be like D1 from year 1 to 2 where they render everything useless or will just the overall light level stay the same and you can keep upgrading?

I'm sure they'll be useless
Y2 legendaries will have an additional perk plus. That alone will make y1 weapons obsolete. I don't think y1 stuff will accept y2 mods either. So a lot of stuff will be left behind pretty quickly.

Hey all, I just got D2 and started playing this week. Haven't played since early year 2 of Destiny 1. Did they get rid of random matchmaking for strikes/raids? I actually have to be in a fireteam to start one? I've tried checking the local list of players that are online for any public fireteams I can join, but have never seen one. Is my best bet to just mass invite people to mine?

Raids have never had matchmaking. Strikes still have it. Just start one and you'll sit in orbit a minute while it finds two other players.
