Muh inclusion. It's an SJW game.

I'm hearing it's not good, but from watching robbaz play i come to 1 conclusions:
He was using a shovel as a weapon, throwing them like spears, one hit killing people, only using guns when he ran out or lost his shovels, so i ask this:
How bad is a game, where you can 1 shot people with shovels, being thrown like javelins from 30-50feet+???

Not bad at all

Because realism is such a prominent proponent of video games...
You seem miserable to be around

You weren't kidding. This is one of the best looking games I've ever played, hands down. Spent an hour last night just wandering around looking at the scenery.
Game started very well. Voice acting was pretty solid, story started good. Has a nice Bioshock Infinite feel to the story with the cult. Haven't gotten to many of the missions yet, just cleared some outposts and stuff, but I'm really enjoying this. No towers
The co-op worked really well. It was good that it didn't mess up my game at all. It saved all gun purchases/money/perks and stuff, but didn't change my campaign (I joined a friend's game).

Lurk around TD & rarely post, but put in about 3 hours last night and can offer some insights for those on the fence.
TLDR version: if you liked FC3, you will like 5. As others have said, it looks stunning on a nice 4K/HDR monitor or TV. In terms of gameplay mechanics, going from 3/4 (which were basically the same game, just in different settings) to 5, they seem to have done a soft reboot akin to what they did going from 2 -> 3; they got rid of / retooled some of the tedious bullshite. No more climbing towers to unlock the map, you now just explore and discover the world through normal gameplay (they even poke fun at that trope early on). I don't think you hunt/collect skins to upgrade your kit anymore, I think that's done via perks. No more mini-map, which I didn't like at first, but it's growing on me. Gunplay is good, as it typically is for far cry games.
I am admittedly early in the game, and no spoilers, but I was expecting the story to be more heavy-handed in it's social/political statements. I was expecting some blatant references to the current discourse in this country, but my impressions are that that the game really is just about killing some wack-job doomsday cultists, and it's more or less incidental that it's set in the United States (Montana) and the bad guys are modeled on a far-right Christian cult, though they appear to take great pains to have them not specifically reference the Bible and/or Jesus.

Yep. No more skinning animation either, you just loot the animal. Huge time saver. Animal skins get you gold that you can buy items and guns/accessories. I like this system much better.

I'm really liking it, except when I'm trying to find a body or animal I killed

Same. I was pleasantly surprised. There is just enough political unrest without getting too heavy handed or specific. Just a lunatic religious cult bent on purging the world of sinners. I'm down.

I've seen some critics whine about this game being too neutral on the topic of guns. Some characters are all about them, some are anti gun or something.
Game media is so hardcore liberal.

Yea I read one review that gave the game a shite rating. Basic review was "I really think it is insensitive to be killing a bunch of drug addicts in this day and age of opioid addiction"
We'll see where the story goes with this one, but gameplay wise, this is definitely one of the best Far Cry game so far.

We all knew going in with this premise that it was going to touch a lot of nerves. Like Wolfenstein.
Regardless of how you land, it's a video game and you're killing the nutjobs anyways, so, you know, get over it.

Yep, it is a video game about fricked up people doing fricked up things.
Now, was it necessary that a buddy and I ran over and ground up a bunch of drug addicts in one of these?
No. But I could. That's what is important.

I’m loving it. I’m just getting into it. The world is beautiful but thank god no towers

I know it's a running joke with Ubisoft games, but I love having things to check off the list. Never minded them

I just hated how tedious they became to climb up. They were just a pain in the arse. The lone tower in this one, that was fine. Climb some ladders, get a view, awesome. The like semi-puzzle that were the towers in FC4 just got ridiculous.

The strange thing for me with the Far Cry towers were how your character automatically knew what to flip, tear out, and cut in order to activate the tower. Such instincts
