God of War 2018

Just how good was this game? Got a PS5 and thinking about starting it. I’m usually a fan of shooters but also like games with great stories. Just finished both last of us games

Great game with great gameplay. It’s more hack and slash with some RPG elements.
Not sure if that would appeal to someone that prefers shooters but the story is good.
You don’t need to know what happened in past God of War games, but it helps to know a little about Kratos’s backstory.

Protip: if you start playing it, stick with it. Don't take a break and come back. I only say this because as you progress, the combat becomes more and more complex in terms of different moves you can do. Sure you can just hack and slash it, but I felt the combat was complex enough to be challenging but not too much to be off-putting. BUT, if you take any significant break from it, it's so hard to get into a rhythm again, or to even remember how to do half the stuff.

Probably my favorite non-Souls-like action game of all time. The combat and skill progression is very easy to understand, but the gameplay definitely gets more complex later on in the game. I platinumed it but will definitely get it again once it drops on Steam.

Agreed. This is why I never did finish Horizon Zero Dawn. To me this was the best designed game in terms of challenge rating, game play and player having to figure out how to defeat creatures. Unfortunately the mechanics were so intricate that any significant time away became a hindrance. I had a gap of a few weeks at one point and never could figure out the controls again. It was a bummer, because I was deep into it.
GoW is an amazing game though.
