No, It is in early access. You are wrong.
Sony doesn't want shite games that don't work released early. Their is a quality test. They allow early access.

Coming July 25 to Mac, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Epic Games' Fortnite finally has a release date. First announced nearly six years ago at the Video Game Awards in 2011, the hybrid “action building” game is launching as an early access title on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.J
And it is also still in early access.
They will not allow PUBG in it's current console state though. As it is kind of broken. Which is fine because it is in exclusive rights now anyways. Hopefully they fix it once those rights are gone.

So I'm reading up on it, and this honestly strengthens my annoyance with Sony. So they have allowed early access games, Ark, Fortnite, but they never officially announced a program, nor do they communicate that you are buying an early access game.
The one article I'm reading shows the banner for Fortnite from the PSStore, showing it as a "Full Game" and being free, but you don't find out it's getting a full release until you click in, and I'm not a fan of how that store lays out it's info.

I think it has more to do with

exclusive rights
than anything, because PUBG is a cash cow right now, and I'm pretty sure if they could it would be up in the store.

This rumored to be happening this year. There's a sign up for a beta system update right now. Maybe that's it.

Except that the lead on PUBG said that Sony is too strict for them right now.
Edit: but yes exclusive rights make it not an issue. As it is locked in to xbox anyway for awhile.
quote:~ The CEO of PUBG developer PUBG Corp, Chang Han Kim
"Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don't have a restriction on quality. However, PlayStation is very strict about this," Kim said. "There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers' taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first."
So what Sony is saying is, early access games are okay if they are actually of quality.

Same. And I like the gameplay in it. It's atmosphere and suspense are parts that make it fun. Being arcade style doesn't make a game anymore of a game. Sorry it didn't fit your taste.
I like it just fine, it's just seriously overrated. If you asked 1000 people who love it what exactly they love about you'll hear almost nothing about the gameplay mechanics. I've never heard anyone gush praise about its combat or its crafting or its stealth, those are the actual gameplay elements and they are largely stock.

It doesn't have to be 'arcade style' but yes, gameplay fundamentally makes a game a game imo.
I know there's now this new casual audience for games out there that just want to sort of mash buttons and get to the next cutscene but I just can't even wrap my head around that being enjoyable, to each his own I guess.
I bring it up because my concern is that they have adopted this 'character/story building first' approach with GoW. If every hour of "gamplay" includes 30 minutes of Kratos slowly walking around with nothing to do but talking to that damn kid I'll be sorely disappointed.
Posted on 1/23/18 at 2:13 pm to IAmReality
They did all the character building they needed with Kratos in the first game. But now he's a viking so I guess they have to do something different.

I've dubbed that genre of games "walkie talkies" as you spend just as much time walking and talking as you do actually doing game stuff.
Uncharted series is the perfect example .
Ugh, yes. I noticed how bad it was when I got the speedrun trophy for Uncharted 4.
It really hits you hard in the face that at least half of the time you spend in every level you're doing absolutely nothing but slowly walking and talking to some companion. It's like a damn cutscene you can't skip. You can't even put the controller down and walk away while it finishes because you're forced to move through it.
I find this style of game more and more annoying the more I see of it and sadly it's only growing in popularity.

I will always be grateful for downloading Until Dawn and MGSV The Phantom Pain for free in PS Store when they offered those games. Almost complete with MGSV, downloaded I believe in November.
Xbox and them charging for PUBG for early access is criminal to me. Its almost unplayable but I still play it
About done with it though.

The story itself is fine but I think it's one of the best told stories in video games ever. I also think it blended gameplay and story better than almost any game up to that point (with the exception of 1 part in the game - the section with the sniper). Also, at release it was the best game I had played that convincingly transitioned gameplay from stealth, to combat, and back again. I would argue that MGSV eventually did that better but came out 2 years later.
Anyway, I don't know if a traditional, Devil May Cry-inspired God of War game can sell well these days. It kind of has to be more than that, so I'm glad they're trying to take it in a slightly different direction. Also, I've always thought Kratos was a terrible, one-note character so I'm happy it appears there will be more to him here.

The original GoW games weren't about interesting or relateable characters. They were about this ridiculous powerful, perpetually enraged roided up monster who just wanted to smash, kill, and f**k everything that moves in ridiculous and over the top ways. They were about blood and violence and boobs and crazy action all on top of awesome greek mythology.
And yes, the reason they are changing the formula has more to do with sales than anything else. Almost all triple A games that aren't first person shooters have to have some sort of super heavy narrative and characterization these days, which by itself isn't so bad, but it is bad when that stuff is done to the neglect of the game.
Triple A game development is so ridiculously expensive these days it sort of leads to this homogenization effect.
Variety is a good thing and I just hope the new GoW stays true to its action roots even with the new presentation.
We're at the point where almost every game is a first person shooter (cuz DLC), an open world game (cuz DLC and expansions), or walkie-talkies (cuz only single player genre that sells big).

Nothing wrong with any of this. I grew up on beat em ups like Streets of Rage and TMNT, GOW is a natural progression of that style. Unfortunately for me its not popular anymore.

quote:I don't know. I feel like they were trying to do something more with that character, at least in the first game. I mean, they hold back revealing that Kratos was responsible for murdering his family for a while and then one of the last "boss fights" has you fighting evil versions of Kratos while attempting to protect the ghosts of your dead wife and son until it's apparent that it's impossible. I think the point was that no amount of violence and tits was going to wash away the memory of what he had done.

Then they doubled down on all of that stuff you listed for the second and third game, save for Kratos accidentally murdering Hera, which was supposed to have some kind of emotional resonance but completely fell flat for me.
(I never played the other GOW games outside of the main trilogy.)
In summary, I'm glad this isn't the same character (from what I can tell in the trailer).

Was listening to last week's beastcast and they made a great point: it looks fun and really inventive, but in no way do they want to put their Switch in it because they remember how they were when they were kids with cardboard. Give me a cardboard sword or anything, and that thing was destroyed before lunch. If this is geared for kids, it might be a ploy to even further escalate Switch sales

I'm getting tired of them talking about games. Just because I listen to both Bomb and Beastcast. It is during the time where it gets old to talk about the games which been out for 3months.
Sometimes I want them to just bullshite more. Maybe even just read more listener mail. It helps pass the time and they can be pretty funny. Talk about Abby working on her bike, Vinny's carpentry skills and Dan's nasty habits. Dan actually got me interested in wrestling. Him and another podcast The Drunken Peasants/Amazing Atheist. So going to my first wrestling show/event when Wrestlemania comes to NO in April; even though I have not watched a show since the 90s.
