I really appreciate GTA for one thing. It’s like a cultural time capsule for when it releases and is one of if not the best satires in gaming. It’s like the simpsons of video games to me that releases once a decade.
I have a very strong inclination this one will lose some of that charm and unique stuff to it though because there’s things that are verboten to speak about joke about or satire now

WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME DEATH STRANDING 2 WAS GETTING A PC RELEASE IN MARCH?!?
That; I’m excited about that

Still haven’t played death stranding 2.
I thought the first one was just ok. I get its appeal but much of its appeal to a lot of people just wasn’t vibing with me. I have been told the sequel adds a lot more things that would be more likely seen in a metal gear solid game though so I might give it a go one day

Yes absolutely. RDR2 was Rockstar’s magnum opus. One of the most beautiful in-game worlds alongside Bioshock infinite. But those days are over.

I’m extremely cynical about the games industry currently but I wouldn’t go this far. There’s still anywhere between a handful to up to 10 games that release every year I consider at a 7.5 level or above which is my line for approaching great. Including Clair obscure last year one of my favorite games ever.
The simple truth is eventually the market will demand a reset

I think the biggest studios will eventually either crater or go mobile/live service only, but I wouldn’t call that a market reset.

I have a different prediction on what will happen that’s almost entirely opposite.
It’s beyond clear by now due to sales and years of market research and surveys over 70%+ of players play only single player games. Add onto that the % that play both single and multiplayer and you’re going to be left with a very small player base for playing just multiplayer games.
That market at this point is essentially set in stone and locked unless you can come with something truly revolutionary.
I think all of these companies are going to massively scale down their teams, which they’re already doing, cut the budgets bigly as single player games cost way less to make, reduce the scope of most of their output, and produce far more single player games that can make more sustainable profits than the volitable multiplayer gambles

Even if it goes that way, I still wouldn't call that a market reset. That's just the big players mimicking the already existing smaller to midsize players.

Locked in for Crimson Desert March 19. Haven’t really played anything since finishing Doom:Dark ages and EXP33 back in October so I’m ready to dive back into a long rpg.
Tried Outer Wilds about a month ago off a friends rec who loves indie games. Wasn’t really my thing

Yeah I wasn’t aware crimson launched then. I’m going to have to go really heavy and hard into RE9 to accomplish and get all I want out of it in the 20 days between it launching and Crimson launching.

Wishful thinking. Most likely scenario will be the big developers transitioning entirely to live service games. There’s too much money to be made from live-service gaming because there’s an army of late Gen Z and Gen Alpha dumbasses who will follow whatever their favorite streamer plays.
Fortnite and streamers truly changed the world of gaming forever and not in a good way.

Tell that to Sony who is currently imploding on a wide scale due to this line of thinking.
Posted on 2/22/26 at 12:38 pm to td01241
Sony is actually one of the last bastions of AAA devs that will still put out narrative-driven single player games. Ghosts of Yotei and Kena: Scars of Kosmoro are prime examples.

Was extremely mediocre. I say this as a massive fan of the first one and with no consideration of the politics around it, which I find disgusting. It was basically across the board in gameplay no improvement or regression on the original, the narrative was dramatically worse, and the open world was a slight downgrade. Still a solid game overall I guess id give it a 6

This I am extremely excited for as i loved the first one
To deny sony is having massive financial issues and thats an understatement becauase of their extremely ill advised and tone deaf massive forray into live service is denying reality. This is someone who has been playstation since ps1

I’m always excited for a new Tomb Raider game. It’s been a long wait.
