Except I don't use that for voice chat. Again, speculation if that's going to be your only option, but if it is, might as well use skype or discord.
It could be, again, Nintendo butchering their messaging, but it sounds like that's what you're going to have to use if you want to chat in game, and not something they integrate in the Switch itself.
I think having an app is great, but plugging in a headset and being able to chat in game or in party chat is old news. Why add another device to the mix? I'm not curious how they're going to handle friends lists and party invites.

I mean, MK8 came out less than 2 years ago and has had insane updates... already has a huge fan base on 3ds and a smaller one on WiiU - it would be dumb at this point to stop support for it. I'm glad they aren't completely turning their backs on those guys
I dunno, charging $60 for a 3 year old game doesn't a ton of goodwill to me. I'll still probably get it, because I didn't buy it for Wii U. No reason for this to priced more than $30.

Because it's standard practice?
This isn't standard practice for handhelds or consoles though. Putting voice chat behind a paywall and then putting it through a smartphone app? That's not standard practice.

this stream is absolutely unacceptable - Nintendo can't even get their shite together on the most important thing they are doing

That presentation last night was a total shite show... The only entertainment that comes with it is watching their stock drop heavily. They will never learn their lesson. Literally 1 game worth playing at launch, but I'm not paying $360 just to play a new Zelda game, even though it looks incredible.

Also, going cell-shaded for Xenoblade 2 is a wise, wise move. No more ugly as sin characters.

I mean, they should have given the conference over to the NA team and allowed the NA or even European team to make a more E3 type presentation...
but I see why they didn't, it was said very early on in this thread - we, the Western world, are NOT their customer. They want all of the Eastern gamers back... if that's all they got they would be extremely happy and consider it a success. Any of us Western gamers buying the system is really just icing on top.
Is this a good strategy, or will it bankrupt them ultimately? who knows - I personally could give a shite about a Metroid game, never been a fan, I get my FPS games in things like Halo and Far Cry, just no interest in Metroid... but for it not to be even a thought, just proves they don't care about the western world, and they really need to be careful with this approach imho

Saw people last night griping about the lack of a handle
Posted on 1/13/17 at 9:50 am to BaddestAndvari
P.S: That being said, ARMS looks fricking amazingly fun as a fighting game from what I'm seeing... and it looks like the movement in 3D space on the controller is a huge step up from previous iterations
ETA: and the fact that Miyamoto was in New York for this... iono, it's very strange how "un-western" this event was... yet the big guy himself was in New York

If this is truly their attitude, like a friend said last night, I look forward to playing Mario on a PS5.

Whenever they said that was their "innovation" for the Gamecube I just couldn't help but bust out laughing at them. The GC was awesome and not due to the handle that I never used!
I just wish Nintendo would get out of the console race at this point, it's apparent their hardware is not what people want anymore, and the only thing we desire from them is their software. Seriously, it's like they don't realize they would make Scrooge McDuck money if they just brought their games to Xbox and Playstation. I would buy EVERY game they made. There's no reason for me to spend $299 for an underpowered console that doesn't offer a lot until the holiday season, and even then the only games I'm really worried about are their exclusive 1st party games.
