So basically you are talking about GTA and it's various clones b/c I murdered plenty a fool on my GCN w/games like Resident Evil 4, Killer 7, Eternal Darkness, Spartan, Metal Gear Twin Snakes, and Freedom Fighters and played plenty of football via Madden and NCAA.

The GCN was more powerful graphically. The only system that gen the PS2 was a step above was the Dreamcast.
The biggest reason to get a PS2 was b/c it doubled as a DVD player.
Gamecube was indeed more powerful than PS2, but a problem is that you couldn't tell from the games that released. Shadow of Collosus, God of War 2, Dragon Quest 8 and FF12 all look too good.

Launch selection is just one game but it's a great game
The games available in the first months for 64 were Mario, wave race killer, instinct, 1080 snowboard. Then around Christmas goldeneye and Star Wars. Mario 64 seemingly never got old. I had it in the rotation until I bought my ps2. 6 years

It's not a might be, it flat out is more powerful. So was the XBox. I don't care that it was the bigger seller bc that has nothing to do with raw power.

FFX
When I look at gameplay online the GameCube aesthetic has aged much better
Rogue squadron games, luigis mansion, star fox adventure, windwaker, sunshine.

I think the allure of Madden 2001 was lessened somewhat by already having played NFL 2K and 2K1. Going from Madden on the playstation to the 2K series on the Dreamcast was insane. I'd casually glance at the TV and almost think my dad was watching a real game
Could only imagine going straight from Playstation to Playstation 2.

But the games on ps2 aimed for hyper realism. That's why I thought they were better.
That's also why the GameCube titles still look good and ps2 titles look like shite

Depends on the game and if the developer was lazy or not. Often times multi platform games were nerfed to PS2 level graphics b/c that made it easier to put the game out. But on games lie RE4 that were originally exclusive to a single system you could tell.
That was actually one of the big reasons Nintendo stopped caring about having the best system specs possible. Being more powerful didn't do squat for them while some of their more under powered systems like the original NES and Gameboy crushed systems that were much more powerful.

I was pretty excited about the Switch when they announced it, but this price-point is too high. I'm hoping this is a colossal flop and they start just doing games as a third-party. I'd love to see some Link on my XBox.

Speaking with GameSpot in New York City today, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime knew where we going with one particular question before we could even finish asking. No doubt having heard the request many times over the years, when we mentioned that some franchises have languished in the shadows, Fils-Aime essentially asked the question of himself.
"Oh, so earlier today I got asked about Mother 3; maybe you can ask me about Metroid," he said jovially. "Look, again, I am proud as an executive with Nintendo to say that we look at all of the boards and all of the comments and we really have a good understanding of what our consumers want. And believe me, we take that to heart as we work to create content.
"So I have nothing to announce--here. But we are aware that there are some key IP that consumers just can't wait for the next true installment in that franchise's legacy. Suffice it to say, we're aware of it, and talk to me in a year and let's look back and see what's happened."
That's hardly confirmation that a western release of Mother 3 or a new Metroid will be announced this year, but it will have to be enough for fans for the time being.

I want to get excited about Nintendo again, but they make it really really hard when they continue to prioritize being the "niche" and "different" alternative as opposed to competing straight up with Sony and Microsoft. Sacrificing processing power in your home console to make it a hybrid home/mobile console is going to continue to drive third party developers away. I'm afraid that when my generation grows out of the main demographic and the loyalty for the Mario/Zelda series begins to fade due to the mediocrity Nintendo has been stuck in the last decade or so, Nintendo is going to be forced out of the home console market. They've become so out of touch with what the main playerbase wants and show no signs of adjusting. Can you imagine what would happen if Nintendo dropped a bomb on the gaming industry by releasing a new home console without some dumb niche concept that took advantage of the latest hardware the generation had to offer with a new Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, and Mario game ready to launch with it? That's the potential punch Nintendo has but they refuse to take advantage of that. It's frustrating.
That being said, Breath of the Wild alone is enough for me to pick up a Switch on day 1. That game looks absolutely amazing. It will sell infinitely better than the Wii-U simply because it's launching with a new Zelda title. That's just the kind of power the Zelda games have.

Your link supports what I've been saying plus it's so old the people don't realize that the GCN had the circuitry to do things like run games in 3D or with motion control that was never implemented.

The gamecube never got the credit it deserved because of the hype of the PS2. Look at the games Nintendo made at the end of the GameCube's cycle. Luigi's Mansion was mentioned, but look at Twilight Princess, Windwaker, Star Fox: Adventures (This one in particular is impressive. The amount of detail in the fur specifically is mindblowing given the generation), all of these you can pop in today and they hold up fantastically.
